We’ve all seen products boasting "eco-friendly" packaging—but does it really make a difference? The short answer: Absolutely. Here’s why ⬇️ Plastic waste is one of the biggest environmental challenges we face today. Most single-use plastics end up in landfills or oceans, where they take hundreds of years to break down. 🌊 This has devastating consequences for our planet and wildlife. Eco-friendly packaging offers a solution by using materials that decompose faster—or can even be composted. ♻️ Not only does this help reduce waste, but it also lowers carbon footprints, using less energy and fuel in production and transportation. For businesses, it’s a win-win. Consumers are increasingly supporting brands that prioritize sustainability. And for all of us, it’s a step toward a greener, more responsible future. 🌱 Every small action counts. Each eco-conscious choice—whether made by individuals or businesses—adds up. One package at a time, we can make a difference. 💚 https://lnkd.in/eeVjzRhi

“If every manufacturer focused on figuring out how to make their products and operations a part of the circular economy, designing their products from the beginning to be reusable or to be easily reclaimed and recycled, that would enable us to divide and conquer to address this issue.” -- Alpa Sutaria, North American SVP of Sustainability and Strategy at PPEC member company Smurfit Kappa WestRock Company via their latest blog (link 👇) on the importance of the circular economy and minimizing waste. Their post provides actions that companies can take to engage in circularity and provides examples from their own operations including how: 🔌residuals from pulping and papermaking processes at their mills are used to create energy; 💧 water is reclaimed and reused multiple times before being cleaned and returned to the environment; and ♻️ box clippings and other leftover paperboard materials from their plants are recycled at their recycling facilities. PPEC is proud of our industry’s circular economy approach to managing paper packaging products. Environmental sustainability, waste minimization, and prioritizing the use of recycle content is an inherent part of our industry’s business model, and it’s been that way for decades. https://lnkd.in/gSTFqbyb?

5 Reasons to Choose Eco-Friendly Packaging We realized that if we wanted to lead the industry, we couldn’t just focus on creating great packaging. We needed to rethink our entire approach—to make sustainability central to everything we did. Here are five reasons why that decision is not only helping our planet but also our clients’ businesses. 1. Reducing the Carbon Footprint I’ve seen firsthand how switching to recycled and renewable materials can drastically cut carbon emissions. It’s not just about being "green"; it’s about real, measurable change. Every time we reduce our #CarbonFootprint, it feels like we’re taking a step closer to the future we all want. 2. Building a Stronger Brand Reputation I can’t tell you how often we hear from customers who’ve chosen us because of our commitment to sustainability. People care. They want to know the brands they support are doing their part. And when they see our #EcoFriendlyPackaging, it deepens their trust, making them more loyal to our clients. 3. Long-Term Cost Benefits Some businesses are hesitant because of the initial cost. But let me tell you something we’ve learned over the years: eco-friendly doesn’t mean more expensive in the long run. Many of our clients have found that lighter, more efficient packaging leads to savings in material, shipping, and waste management costs. It’s an investment in the future—and it pays off. 4. Staying Ahead of Regulations The landscape is changing fast. More regulations around packaging waste and #Sustainability are coming, and it’s not going to slow down. When you’re ahead of the curve, you’re not just complying with regulations—you’re setting yourself apart as a business that’s thinking ahead. 5. Supporting the Circular Economy I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of packaging that doesn’t just serve a single purpose but can be reused, recycled, or composted. When we create eco-friendly packaging, we’re contributing to a circular economy—one where nothing goes to waste. That’s not just good for the planet; it’s good for business, too. Our Journey Toward Sustainability At RR Industrial Packaging, we’re not just talking about sustainability. We’re living it. Every day, we’re working on new ways to innovate and reduce our environmental impact, and it’s making a difference. Whether it’s using biodegradable polymers or cutting down on waste, we’re committed to a future that’s both profitable and sustainable. If your business is ready to make that switch, let’s talk. Together, we can create packaging solutions that don’t just meet today’s needs—they anticipate tomorrow’s. If you want to stay up-to-date with us, follow our Page. RR INDUSTRIAL PACKAGING PVT. Happy Earth Day! 🌍 "I only feel angry when I see waste. When I see people throwing away things we could use." -Mother Teresa Let's take inspiration from today and work towards a cleaner future. I really like what the company, Hain Celestial has done with their sustainable packaging goals: "Achieve 100% recycled content for paper & paperboard packaging, a minimum of 50% recycled content for corrugated packaging, and a forest management certification for all paperboard and corrugated packaging by 2030." They are also committed to eliminating excess and non-recyclable materials and growing the use of materials that are generally collected for recycling in the regions where they operate. Check out their packaging sustainability strategy here: https://lnkd.in/getTwRvX Let's all do our part in making our planet a better place for future generations. #EarthDay #Sustainability #Recycling #HainCelestial

To combat the plastic menace, some companies use packaging materials that can be composted at home or in industrial composting facilities, ensuring they decompose naturally. Shopping bags or even wrapping made of paper are increasingly being used by many companies, so if homes have recycling methods, they can dispose of the package safely. Read about the upcoming trends in sustainable packaging. https://lnkd.in/d9fQ5pGu #sustainablepackaging

Setting the standard for sustainable packaging In the pursuit of changing the status quo, there's always the risk of getting overzealous. Take, for instance, the EU Single-Use Plastic Directive (SUPD), a well-intended effort to curb marine pollution by single-use plastic items like cups, plates, and cutlery. Unfortunately, the measure missed its mark, as it failed to differentiate between traditional plastics and ecologically sound substitutes. Instead of reducing the ecological footprint, the SUPD prompted food service to rush towards solid plastics as a loophole filler. Recognising the shortcomings of the SUPD, attention shifted towards prioritising recyclability and decomposition. Enter EN 17428, or ‘Packaging – Determination of the degree of disintegration under simulated home composting conditions’, as the full name reads. This new EU standard aims to provide a comprehensive framework for evaluating the compostability of packaging materials in more natural, not industrial settings. The shift away from industrial composting, which its predecessor EN 13432 primarily focused on, reflects a broader vision for sustainability in packaging. Simple and cost-effective method Compared to the existing industrial composting standard, EN 17428 offers a more practical approach to sustainable product development. It provides a simple and cost-effective method to assess the degradation of materials in lab-scale home composting conditions. At Colombier, we’re pleased with this shift, as it enables us to conduct product testing quicker and more effectively. Finding material compositions that disintegrate easily can be done in our own lab. This saves time and allows us to innovate more in concert with our sustainability goals Sustainability tools For Colombier, the benefits of adopting EN 17428 are evident. The new standard equips us with additional tools to effectively produce environmentally and economically sound barrier coated packaging materials. Optimising compostability and recyclability of our products, in alignment with our broader mission of reducing our environmental impact, is the reason for increasing demand for our sustainable products. 300,000 large-sized SUVs Every step towards sustainability matters. The smallest improvement can result in significant waste disposal savings.Just imagine, with over 80 million tons of packaging waste generated annually in the EU alone, a one percent increase in recycling rate would prevent a garbage mountain equal in weight to 300,000 large-sized SUVs We’re making packaging environmentally friendly, one step at a time. Join us in our pursuit to do better.
