Inclusive Christmas parties aren't.... Inviting employees to finish at 4:00 p.m. on the day of the party so parents, caregivers, neurodiverse people, non-drinkers, drivers, and people who generally don't think Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year (for whatever their personal or religious reasons may be) can sit in a meeting room making paper decorations and colour in pictures of robins in a bid to help them feel included It is easier to escape if they stay home and do it on Zoom. I've not been to a Christmas party for several years. And looking back, I would have preferred the money to do something that would have been more suited to my lifestyle. All a bit annoying given I owned the business and should have thought about the inclusion opportunity in that. Hindsight is always so much easier.

Forgiving Fridays Recently, I’ve a poor experience with a food caterer. Not only were they 3-hours late, they left behind remaining furniture that weren’t collected for more than a month. I love the aesthetic of the food display and decided to engage them despite their exorbitant fees. I have heard their explanation but not good enough. Why do I say so? 1. There wasn’t proactiveness in informing about being late on the actual day. Zero communication till I texted and called. 2. There wasn’t customer service recovery despite not giving full sets of items as quoted and the lateness. 3. No initiation to arrange pick-up for remaining items at client’s location. Even if promised to come, they didn’t turn up until I mentioned to discard (which was after a month). Clearly those claimed company assets aren’t important. Poor quality ❌ buy (again) Poor service ❌buy (again) Poor attitude ❌ buy (again) I don’t always look at the company logos collected or engaged by collaborators or partners. Those are mostly a reference to me. I buy through my personal engagement with them. Never believe they will give quality when they don’t even have the basic courtesy. I may be wrong but I’ve been proven correct time after time. Murphy law = Anything that can go wrong will go wrong I have it happened to me before as well. However, the way we actively respond to unforeseen circumstances can turn awry situations to awesome endings. Nonetheless, we aren’t perfect. Morning ☕️ As we head towards the end of the year and start to think about festive celebrations it’s important we consider how inclusive we’re being. ✅Let’s be mindful of our colleagues who don’t drink alcohol, let’s not centre the period around going for drinks/have parties where the only soft drink option is water. ✅Consider your employees who don’t celebrate Christmas. Does the party theme have to be about Father Christmas? ✅Don’t assume everyone loves Christmas, or the festive holidays, for some it’s a really challenging time. ✅Consider a budget, whilst secret Santa is fun for some, for others it reinforces financial stress. ✅Don’t exclude anyone, ensure invites go out to everyone even if you think they may not attend. ✅If you’re on the planning committee for a party/celebration, look at the group to see how diverse it is. If everyone looks like you, maybe consider bringing other voices on board. ✨Inclusion is in everything we do, let’s not forget that in the run up to the holidays. #DiversityEquityAndInclusion #Festivities #ChristmasSeason

Celebrating Diversity and Individuality This Holiday Season. 🌟 As we approach the joyous Christmas season, filled with festive markets, beautiful decorations, and cherished traditions, I find myself reflecting on a significant aspect of our lives that deserves attention: the importance of respecting diversity and individuality. Growing up, I was surrounded by family and friends for whom faith played a vital role. However, I also witnessed the divisions that can arise among believers, often fueled by a desire to prove one belief system is superior to another. In this journey, I learned that true harmony is not about conformity but about embracing the uniqueness of each individual. In writing Labyrinth of Dreams, I immersed myself in the characters' journeys, particularly Peter and Helen, whose real-life story has profoundly impacted me. Their marriage, born out of necessity rather than choice, was fraught with challenge; anger, regret, and mistrust. Yet, through it all, they chose to prioritize respect for each other’s individuality. This decision shaped how they raised their children, Sakura and Nevan, instilling in them the value of authenticity. By embracing their diversity, they learned to navigate the world with confidence and compassion, rising above societal biases. Diversity enriches our lives and broadens our perspectives. When we respect each person's unique path, we cultivate an environment where creativity thrives and collaboration flourishes. In a world that often seeks to categorize us, let's celebrate the richness that comes from our differences. As I celebrate my favorite season, Christmas, I am reminded of the power of love and respect that unite us beyond borders and beliefs. Let’s take this season as an opportunity to reflect on how we can honor and celebrate the diversity in our communities and relationships. One of the first things I have my clients do is identify their values. I do this because values become the guideposts to why tasks are on their to-do list. 🥅 It doesn't matter how organized or productive you are. If things don't align with your values, you'll never get them done. This is also one of the first things the Fair Play Method has you do with your partner. There is so much behind why we do things. Maybe you send Christmas cards because you enjoy sharing the highlights of your year with your family and friends. 🧑🎄 Or maybe you send them because you feel you should. Doesn’t everyone send them? Same for the kinds of birthday parties you throw for your kids. You go overboard, inviting everyone you know, bringing in a bouncy castle and petting zoo because it seems like everyone else does too. 🥳 But you secretly resent it. And you really would like to stop. The importance of identifying your values and getting your family involved in the conversation leads to the activities in your life feeling good to you. I’m not talking about laundry and dishes here. I’m talking about the things we have some control over. The birthday parties. The extracurricular activities we sign our kids up for—the trips we take. The atmosphere was electric, the food was delicious, and the company was even better. A heartfelt thank you to Kamini Cotton for the invitation! Supporting our seniors is not just a duty; it’s a joy. It reminds us of the rich tapestry of experiences and wisdom they bring to our lives. Each conversation, each smile shared, is a reminder of the importance of connection and community. During the event, I met some incredible new friends—Tanya Haswell and Gretchen Hahn. Our laughter echoed through the festivities, reinforcing the idea that relationships are the heart of any community. As we look ahead to the launch of the new location and more events, I’m reminded of the impact we can have when we come together.
