Last night's Urban Land Institute Shark Tank 🦈 showcased innovative ideas for repurposing LA's vacant office space. A popular concept was the potential for shotgun units with a long, narrow building footprint. A significant challenge remains: entitlement and permit regulations. The current system treats adaptive reuse almost the same as new construction. How can we get the city and developers to view adaptive reuse more like tenant improvements (TIs)? It's encouraging that the City of LA's regulatory framework is evolving with the upcoming adoption of the Adaptive Reuse Ordinance in February 2025. ATC is actively gathering data on adaptive reuse adoption and looks forward to furthering this crucial conversation. #UrbanPlanning #AdaptiveReuse #LARealEstate #officerealestate
