Great article covering two things I like, Wine and more importantly the growth of the B Corp Movement and how it moves the dial in creating an economic model that makes environmental, economic and social sense.
While organic and biodynamic certifications have long been valued in the winery scene, there's been a glaring blind spot when it comes to how workers are treated. But that’s changing. From Oregon to Bordeaux, wineries around the world are recognizing the importance of social sustainability, seeking #BCorp Certification to signal their commitment to people and the planet. “B Corp seemed the most complete and exhaustive commitment to our environmental and social goals.” - Saskia D., Chief Executive. In his latest article for The New York Times, Eric Asimov explores how these three B Corp certified wineries — Les Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite, Sokol Blosser Winery and Spottswoode Estate Vineyard & Winery — are reshaping the narrative of what it means to produce exceptional wines responsibly. 🍷🍇 Uncork the full story here: https://nyti.ms/3x0mN8o Sarah Schwimmer Alex Sokol Blosser Charlotte Levitt Felton Road Wines Limited Champagne Bollinger Champagne Charles Heidsieck Avignonesi Benjamin Bridge Ridgeview Wine Estate Rathfinny Wine Estate Chehalem Winery Stoller Family Estate Soter Vineyards

Completed the Champagne MOOC from Comité Champagne ! I explored the fascinating world of Champagne through four comprehensive modules: The Champagne Making Process, The Champagne Terroir, History and Economy of Champagne & Diversity and Tasting. Throughout the course, I learnt about the complex production methods, such as the traditional méthode champenoise, and how the unique terroir, predominantly composed of limestone soil, shapes its flavour profile. I studied Champagne's rich historical roots dating back to the 17th century and its significant economic impact. Despite the region's limited vineyard area of 34,300 hectares, representing only 4% of France's total vineyard area, Champagne captures 36% of the global consumption of all sparkling wines by value.

Navarra, reflects on the region’s evolution from Roman-era vineyards to its current status as a pioneer in rosé production and sustainability. Palacios highlights how Navarra’s exceptional location—shaped by the Atlantic, Continental, and Mediterranean climates—gives its wines unparalleled character. He also shares how innovation, like the SMARTWINE project, and a commitment to sustainability have cemented Navarra’s place at the forefront of Spain’s wine industry. With a firm belief in blending heritage with progress, Palacios reveals how Navarra continues to inspire wine lovers globally while leading the way in inclusivity and environmental stewardship. I have worked with B Corps and B Lab for about 15 years and one of my takeaways from this great article published by The New York Times and written by Eric Asimov is how competition among wineries has accelerated adoption of and adherence to the movement in that industry. The dynamic is familiar: when one industry player becomes certified, the pressure on their competitors ramps up thanks to healthy competition. And becoming certified is not an exercise of being 'dusted and done.' Once the values of stakeholder capitalism take root, companies thrive on continual improvement.
