🌟 We are thrilled to announce the launch of a groundbreaking project aimed at fostering an Autism-Friendly environment across the hospitality industry in the EU. This initiative is designed to empower managers and staff within small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the hospitality sector to deliver adapted services that cater to the unique needs of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). 🔹 Project Aim: Our mission is to qualify hospitality professionals, equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary to provide exceptional, inclusive service to all customers, including those with ASD. By embracing this initiative, we're not just enhancing service quality; we're promoting inclusivity and understanding within our communities. 🔹 Together with Asociación FRESS and Autism Friendly Club, we at Folkuniversitetet in Uppsala will implement this exciting project during the next 16 months in the hospitality sector in Sweden and Spain. This initiative is more than a project; it's a movement towards creating a more inclusive society, one step at a time. We invite you to join us in this journey, whether as a partner, a participant, or a supporter. Together, we can make a difference. #AutismFriendlyHospitality #Inclusion #HospitalitySector #EUProject #ASDInclusion

Sharing Asha Shreedhar's Inspiring Journey Many of you have been following my posts about the inaugural Accessibility Symposium held in May. The response to the symposium was overwhelming, and I’m thrilled to announce that we’ve decided to share the recordings for those who couldn’t attend. Today, I’m delighted to share the first video featuring Asha Shreedhar, who shared her lived experience with autism spectrum disorder and Asperger’s Syndrome. Her journey, spanning from South Africa to India via the United States in search of the support she needed from childhood to today, is nothing short of inspirational. Asha's story underscores the critical importance of a disability-friendly support system, medical affordances, and social acceptance. Her resilience and determination serve as a powerful reminder of the impact that inclusive environments can have on individuals with disabilities. On behalf of the entire Accessibility Symposium team, I wholeheartedly salute Asha for her courage and thank her for not only giving a powerful opening to our event but also for her grace in hosting the entire symposium. Our team firmly believes in the principle of "nothing about us, without us," and this was reflected in our speaker lineup, with more than half of our speakers having a disability. Watch this video to hear Asha’s inspiring story and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced by individuals with autism spectrum disorder and Asperger’s Syndrome. https://lnkd.in/gmD4QqCi #Accessibility #Inclusion #AutismAwareness #DisabilitySupport #Inspiration #AccessibilitySymposium #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #MondayMorningMotivation

📆 2 April - World Autism Awareness Day On April 2nd, 2024, World Autism Awareness Day was marked by a groundbreaking virtual event, "Moving from Surviving to Thriving: Autistic Individuals Share Regional Perspectives." This initiative, organized by the United Nations Department of Global Communications in collaboration with the Institute Of Neurodiversity ION, aimed to amplify #autisticvoices from around the globe. From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EDT, panelists representing six regions discussed the #progress and #challenges in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) for #autistic people. Since the UN General Assembly's 2007 resolution, efforts have shifted from merely raising #awareness to fostering #acceptance and #celebrating the contributions of autistic individuals. This event, co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Italy and Poland to the UN, and supported by GAIN, underscores a commitment to #empowering autistic individuals, advocating for their #rights, and appreciating their #diverse perspectives. As we move beyond awareness to #action, this observance serves as a pivotal moment for #globalsolidarity and understanding in the #neurodiversity movement.
