If you could go back in time, would you do your first job again now? I love working with young professionals! ❤️ Spent a full day training and doing workshops with over 100 apprentices from Marriott International 🚀 the topic was "𝘊𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴" Such a great initiative and it really made a difference in these young people’s lives. The Marriott team was great and cheered for the apprentices as they walked in – talk about appreciation. 👌 My contribution: 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆. Technology influences us more and more, including of course our emotions and wellbeing. It’s so important to recognise when this is happening and know how to regulate it. Being an apprentice and a teenager can be a challenging time. It certainly was for me. I did five years of waitering as a student and I made plenty of mistakes. Dropping glasses, plates, serving the wrong dish… 🤦♂️ Reflecting back, what's one piece of advice you wish you'd received at the start of your career? What a rewarding day🙏 #grateful #emotionalintelligence #artificialintelligence #digitalhumanism #technology #innovation #experience #behaviouralpsychology #humanexperience #zukunftgestalten #zukunft #technologie #behaviouralscience #digitalpsychology #brandkarma #empathy #digitalpsychologists

Gen Z (born 1997–2012) introduces new workplace expectations, rendering traditional hospitality practices less effective. As the most diverse and educated generation, they are projected to comprise 30% of the workforce by 2030. Influenced by modern parenting and technological advancements, Gen Z prioritizes work-life balance, diversity, inclusion, and social responsibility, urging businesses to adapt. This generation seeks competitive pay and personalized benefits like education stipends, travel perks, and wellness allowances. They also value immediate recognition, prompting HR teams to implement real-time reward systems. To attract Gen Z, recruitment strategies should leverage social media and gamified processes. Flexible schedules and inclusive cultures are critical to meeting their demand for adaptability and equity. Retention requires fostering transparent and collaborative environments. Regular town halls, feedback surveys, and open-door policies encourage open communication, while acting on feedback and involving Gen Z in decision-making enhances their sense of value. By aligning workplace practices with their expectations, the hospitality industry can attract, retain, and empower Gen Z workforce.

A Wake-Up Call for the Hospitality Industry As hospitality leaders, we often brainstorm about the persistent gap between academia and industry, questioning why many hotel management graduates seem unprepared or uninterested in joining the workforce. In my view, a significant contributor to this gap is the way industrial trainees are treated in our hotels. These young, aspiring professionals step into the industry full of passion and potential, hoping to learn and grow. Yet, far too often, they are used as free labor rather than being given structured learning opportunities. This practice not only stifles their growth but also leaves them disillusioned about the profession. Many end up forming a negative opinion about the industry, opting for alternative career paths instead of continuing in hospitality. The consequences are already visible. Admissions to hotel management colleges are on a steady decline, with some reputed institutions reporting drops of over 30%, a trend that is deeply alarming. Having been actively involved on both sides—hospitality and academia—this issue hits close to home and compelled me to write this. If we want to address this growing crisis, it’s critical that hospitality HR professionals, General Managers, and mentors rethink their approach to trainees: 1️⃣ Focus on learning and skill-building rather than exploiting their labor. 2️⃣ Design structured training programs that foster growth and inspire passion for hospitality. 3️⃣ Treat trainees as an investment in the future of the industry, not as temporary manpower. The hospitality industry thrives on people and experiences, and our future depends on the talent we nurture today. Let’s bridge the gap by aligning the industry’s needs with academia’s goals and ensuring that our trainees receive the guidance and mentorship they deserve. It’s time we pledge to inspire, mentor, and guide these young minds to ensure they see hospitality as a career worth pursuing—not one to escape from. What do you think about this as a hospitality professional, share your thoughts in the comments. 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿? Today we introduce you to Jorge Daniel Teixeira Magalhaes. 👋🏼 Jorge has been part of the HotelPartner family since 2013. He started out as a trainee with an apprenticeship, then completed his higher technical college and is now Senior Technology Officer. As such, he is responsible for the support and further development of the intranet and the WBE. #ask𝓙𝓸𝓻𝓰𝓮 What is your favourite emoji and why? 🙈 - „That's what I use the most. I like it because it can put a smile on someone's face." Something nobody knows about him? "When I was a small child, my father emigrated to Switzerland. When I went on holiday to Switzerland for the first time at the age of 10, I was so fascinated that I absolutely wanted to live here. A year later, there were three of us here." 🇨🇭 Is your desk tidy or rather chaotic? "Rather chaotic." When I'm in a slump at work, it always helps me to "leave my desk for a moment and go outside to reorganise my thoughts." 💬 What can't be missing at work? 🤗 a good team 💻 good equipment (especially in IT) 💭 as few distractions as possible My colleagues are the best because "We always help each other and even put our own priorities aside when a colleague needs help." 😊 #revenuemanagement #yieldmanagement #hospitality #hospitalityindustry #hotelindustry #team
