McGill University researchers present an approach for microwave photonic (MWP) arbitrary waveform generation utilizing a quantum dash optical frequency comb source: https://bit.ly/3X4RBPJ Published in #OPG_OPTCON, the team showcases the generation of rectangular, triangular, and sine burst waveforms with an accuracy exceeding 90% in their generated waveform compared to the target waveform. The system can also generate sine bursts, periodic sinusoids, and sinusoids with envelopes, with clock frequencies lower than that of the sinusoid itself. An #OPG_OL paper studies changes in the photoelectric properties of high Al content p-AlGaN, which is widely used in deep ultraviolet lasers: https://bit.ly/4eW3bmw The research team found that under high NH3 flow conditions, p-AlGaN exhibited significantly higher impurity peaks than the main peak intensity, indicating the presence of numerous defects in the studied sample. With adjustments, the team achieved a decrease in hole scattering, improving teh sample’s surface morphology and enhancing carrier mobility. Researchers at the University of Bonn have demonstrated that this exotic quantum state adheres to a fundamental theorem of physics. Physicists have achieved a groundbreaking step towards unlocking the mysteries of positronium, an exotic atom composed of matter and antimatter that exists for only 142 billionths of a second. By successfully freezing positronium with lasers, scientists have opened new pathways for research in physics, potentially revolutionizing fields from cancer treatment to space travel. This leap overcomes the challenge posed by positronium's rapid movement, allowing for unprecedented analysis. CERN's Dr. Ruggero Caravita shares the enthusiasm: "Physicists are in love with positronium. It is the perfect atom to do experiments with antimatter."
