The Trust for Civic Life and $8 million to fund civic participation in rural communities are examples of what philanthropy can accomplish when funders work together. That was the goal when Stephen Heinz, president of Rockefeller Brothers Fund, asked Carnegie Corporation of New York to join a funder collaborative a year ago, resulting in an early commitment of $3.5 million from the foundation. Today the collaborative has 15 funders. The Trust’s work is grounded in research that was funded by philanthropy and conducted by the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. Its report titled "Our Common Purpose" made a strong impression. It provides pragmatic, nonpartisan approaches to countering mistrust and division in our society. A second round of grants to support civic entrepreneurs is planned for later this year, and if all goes as planned, the collaborative will invest $50 million over the next five years. https://lnkd.in/ebyPnCVt

In our current interdependent world, our household is Earth and all its living beings." "Oikos" is where the word "economy" is derived from (house + nemo meaning to manage). Ironically, it is also where the word "ecology" (house + logos meaning to study) is also derived from. Somewhere along the way, in this enlightened word of ours, we have separated the two. According to our current neoclassical economic thinking, the two are distinct entities. But they are not. The economy depends entirely on the ecological wellbeing of this planet, and therefore so does our future and the prosperity of future generations. Dr. Roth provided me, before the show airing, his overall impressions of this dastardly document. Please share!!! I thought many of you would want to read it. From Dr. John Roth - I want to send a few thoughts about some of my overall impressions of the document:   The document has 30 chapters authored by 400+ scholars, and it amounts to more than 900 pages. It has a “departmental structure.” That is, the chapters focus on departments of the federal government. It is to them that the axes are applied. The fact that scholars, at least for the most part, are the authors is interesting to me. They are among the intellectual vanguard of Maga Republicanism. I am dubious that Trump has read much of the document, which would fit with his repeated statements that he knows nothing about Project 2025. But this also reinforces a strong impression of mine: Trump is the head of a spear that has lots and lots of folks carrying and brandishing it. In a word, Trump is useful to lots of people. They want to “get things done” and Trump is the means to that end. Of course, he is more than their tool, but that role has not been underscored a lot, and I think Project 2025 is all about getting Trump elected so the Maga intelligentsia can have its way. Hence, the discussions include emphases on things that can be done by executive action or without legislative action. And there’s an emphasis on moving fast, wasting no time. One line suggests that plans should be ready to implement as soon as Trump says “so help me God” at the end of the oath of office on Inauguration Day.
