Cenex Expo 2024: Driving Innovation with Data Another fantastic two-day event welcomed over 4,000 attendees, showcasing the latest breakthroughs in Innovation, Sustainable Materials, and Connected Automated Mobility (CAM). It was great to see the industry coming together to forge a path towards Net Zero transport. Here are James Broomer's key takeaways: 1️⃣ Migration from ICE: - Steady growth across the low carbon vehicle (LCV) sector but personal passenger EV products are still seen as too expensive. Public LCVs do not serve all customers currently, specifically those in more rural areas. - Governing bodies should remain technology-neutral while guiding the industry to address challenges, ensuring customers are engaged in the process. - The time is now. Immediate focus should be on optimizing existing charging infrastructure rather than waiting for ideal conditions, and the rollout of new infrastructure should be reliable and unremarkable in its consistency. 2️⃣ Future of Transport - Transport is a complex system and must be navigated as such. Understanding the inputs, outputs and interdependencies is key to driving better outcomes. - Trusted and well-presented data is essential for accelerating progress and enabling better decision-making. - Being clear on the priorities will allow focus on the right areas. Whether that is user-centricity, embracing change or working across silos. 3️⃣ Clarity on the ZEV Roadmap 2030 - No more sales of new petrol or diesel vehicles. Hybrid vehicles must have a 'significant range' zero-emission mode. 2035 - All new cars must be fully zero-emission. New Hybrid vehicle sales will cease. 2040 - HGVs under 26 tons must be zero-emission. 2050 - Every vehicle on UK roads (new and existing) must be zero-emission. Significant progress has been made over the past year, but further efforts are needed to stay on track with the Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) roadmap leading to 2050. Additionally, sectors like Energy, Construction, Heavy Industry, and Agriculture must also align with this transition for broader success. 🚆 Summary of the first day at InnoTrans 2024 🌍🚉 The opening day of InnoTrans 2024 showcased two dominant trends: digitalization and sustainability. 🔧 Digitalization Highlights: One of the standout innovations was presented by Deutsche Bahn with its cutting-edge multisensor platform. This system leverages advanced 3D analysis technology through a combination of sensors and panoramic cameras, revolutionizing the maintenance and optimization of railway infrastructure. 🔋 Sustainability Innovations: A strong focus on zero-emission technologies was evident throughout the day. Stadler unveiled its RS ZERO regional train, powered by hydrogen and batteries, offering a carbon-neutral solution for regional transport. Siemens also impressed with its high-speed Velaro train, designed for extreme desert conditions as part of a project for the Sahara. 🚄 Diverse Vehicle Showcase: Over 110 vehicles were on display along 3,500 meters of tracks, including high-speed trains, hybrid locomotives, and maintenance vehicles. Noteworthy among them were the Mireo Smart from Siemens, an intelligent regional train, and Alstom’s Coradia Max™, a dual-level regional train, both emphasizing comfort, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology. Product innovation, a wide range portfolio, and a flexible response to technological trends and market needs form the basis of our activities. Innovation enthusiasm is what's drives us. 2023 has brought novelties in our company's product range. Last October, at the Busworld exhibition in Brussels, we unveiled a new version of electric bus, based on a new drive architecture that guarantees all-day operation and exceptional efficiency for operators, while maintaining a low battery weight. The launch of the bus also marked the debut of a new generation of batteries, all mounted on the roof only. Today, we offer a complete range of zero-emission solutions for public transport, including 10 models of electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles and trolleybuses. This is complemented by a comprehensive range of battery solutions and charging systems, including large-scale infrastructure projects. Our development plan also includes the expansion of our product range into other segments, in particular the intercity market. Over the next few years, we will introduce a new zero-emission intercity platform in three different lengths: 10.9, 12.2 and 13 meters.
