How interesting to see this out as a proposed set of ratios. We in the medical legal field know how ratios affect outcomes, yet it can be very difficult to enforce them.
Legal Nurse Consultant | Specializing in Labor, Delivery & Birth Injury | Proudly Serving with Aloha from Hawai’i 🌈
✨ 𝐀 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 ✨ Patient outcomes are closely tied to the quality of care, which hinges on proper staffing. 📚 AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) evidence-based guidelines aim to maintain nurse-to-patient ratios that ensure safety and effective care. ✨ It's a bit more complex than this but: ✅ Active Labor: 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio for continuous support. ✅ Pushing: 1:1 nurse-to-patient. ✅ High-Risk Cases: Often 1:1 for intensive monitoring. ✅ Postpartum Care: Adequate staffing for close monitoring after birth. 🏛️ 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: ✨ Failure to meet safe staffing standards can have serious legal consequences. In cases where poor outcomes are linked to inadequate staffing, healthcare facilities may face malpractice lawsuits, regulatory penalties, and damage to their reputation. 👩⚕️ Legal nurse consultants (LNCs) play a key role in assessing these cases by reviewing medical records to determine if insufficient staffing contributed to a deviation from the standard of care. 🤔 𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦? 🤔 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘴 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘴? 🤔 𝘋𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴? 📷 National Nurses United

Did you know that up to 50% of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) cases go undiagnosed? Properly screening patients for DVT is crucial as a DVT can lead to life-threatening complications such as pulmonary embolism. By implementing thorough screening protocols, healthcare providers can recognize high risk patients and attempt to prevent DVTs, and thus preventing potentially fatal outcomes. Prioritizing patient safety through vigilant screening practices must be emphasized to both new and established nurses. If you're in need of a behind-the-scenes LNC or a nurse expert in Med/Surg or Critical Care, don't hesitate to reach out to me. Together, we can ensure comprehensive patient care and optimal legal outcomes. Let's make a difference in healthcare and law, one case at a time. Paediatric prescriptions; I would like to hear from fellow clinicians especially paediatricians and pharmacists about prescribing practices in children which I strongly convinced that doses should be based on body weight and to be decided by the prescribing doctor. All professional bodies recommend that dose should be in gms, mg, mcg and SHOULD NOT be in mls or number of tablets. More so, in this day of age, with EHR and AI, and with weight and height are taken & documented in every visit, medication doses can be calculated automatically and more accurately than done by doctors. If this can be incorporated within EHR in every healthcare facility, then definitely will bring more patient safety and better quality of care to our patients especially for this more vulnerable age group. It would be nice to hear the views of colleagues on this subject? #rcpch #mediclinic #childhealth #pharmacists #prescriping #quality

Alexandra Abbott, a second-year Robert Gordon University student nurse on placement in Woodend Hospital's Outpatient Department, designed an information board for a current "Hand 2" study on the treatment of Dupuytren's contracture*. She is shown alongside Practice Supervisor Janice Ewen and Practice Assessor Laura Ross. Well done, Alex! #ProudToBeNHSG *Dupuytren's contracture is a condition of the hand which causes fingers to bend into the palm and prevents them from straightening fully. It is caused by a thickening of tissues in the palm of the hand. "Hand 2" research study aims to find out which treatment for Dupuytren's contracture is best for patients and is most cost-effective for the NHS. Recruitment for the study is now complete.

Are physician assistants (PAs) the future of healthcare? A growing number of patients are being seen by PAs instead of MDs. While there are over 1 million doctors in the U.S., the number of PAs is rapidly increasing, up 28% from 2018-2022. With a projected shortage of 48,000 primary care doctors by 2034, PAs will likely play an even bigger role in our care. But how do their education and training compare to MDs? And what does this mean for patients? Medical errors are a serious problem in hospitals and can lead to patient deaths. Research has found that rude or disrespectful behavior among doctors, nurses, and hospital staff can make things dangerous. “A 10% increase in unit incivility was linked to a maximum 8.87% increase in healthcare-associated infection rates and a maximum 10.59% increase in mortality rates." When there is a lack of collaboration and teams are divided by gender, ethnicity, or position, it can lead to more medical errors and deaths. However, a culture of collaboration and better communication can improve patient outcomes. #WorkplaceCulture #Hospitals #Healthcare #patientsafety
