Discipline vs. motivation… …I’ve been reflecting on this a lot lately, and last week’s awarded Michelin ⭐️s crystallized it for me. Long ago (ok, only since 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣0️⃣), I recognized that I couldn’t rely solely on motivation. We all have those days that feel sluggish. Instead, I’ve focused on being disciplined enough to show up consistently. Motivation alone won’t earn a fine dining restaurant a Michelin ⭐️. In a team setting, everyone must be disciplined enough to show up and stay consistent, regardless of what’s happening in their personal lives—which can be incredibly challenging when leading a team of people. The pressure to maintain that ⭐️ year after year must be immense. Heck, even a two-peat or three-peat championship in sports is rare. ⚽️ My 🔑 takeaway is that you can show up, even when not motivated, and still get sh*t done.

Creating a Lurpak commercial can't be an easy task. The concept is simple, but the playing field is tight, with sky-high expectations. The challenge of telling a story in a kitchen, using a limited set of elements to create impact and narrative, must be a test for any director. Especially when we know that this commercial sets the trend for all food-related ads featuring a kitchen, globally. Like it or not, some brands set the stage, and the rest follow. Even today, I'm still sent the Lurpak "Freestyle" commercial as a reference when sketching ideas. But this latest ad has managed to put a new spin on things with some clever camera work. Not because it's groundbreaking, but because it's innovative within the context of Lurpak's advertising history.

The power of #Facilitation and setting the team up for success. Leadership and connection were the prime goals. Yesterday the group I facilitated executed phenomenally on a challenging task. They had a build a tower as high as possible using milk crates. Rules: 1. Can only place on crate at a time 2. Have to place the crate at the bottom of the tower 3. Team members had to rotate assignments after a crate is placed. New placer, new lifters, new spotters. 4. Lifters can only touch the bottom crate when lifting the tower. Result - The team broke a 9 year group record by building a tower with 30 milk crates. Congratulations! #goalsetting #facilitators #teamwork #purpose #problemsolving.

I learned from my team lead that if you want your team to perform exceptionally and take responsibility and ownership, you need to trust them. Tell the team "Just give it your best and if any mistakes happen, we’ll tackle them together." This kind of message removes fear, letting them play confidently on the field, which naturally leads to exceptional results. Tag your team lead and share a valuable lesson you've learned from them.
