Through Voices & Voyages, I’ve been reflecting on what leadership could mean for Māori and Pasifika professionals here in the UK. Following my last post and a kōrero (conversation) with my colleague Mario Manelfi about how dual identities shape leadership, I’ve been thinking about how leadership can look different for each of us. Leadership isn’t always about titles—it’s about influence, connection, and driving meaningful change across global spaces. For some, leadership follows a linear path—progressing through roles and responsibilities. But even within that progression, our cultural heritage can anchor us. Leadership grounded in manaakitanga (hospitality) and whanaungatanga (connection) brings authenticity and purpose to these spaces. For others, leadership may be lateral, collective, or shaped by community-first values. Reframing leadership means challenging traditional models and recognising the power of cultural intelligence in how we lead and transform the spaces we occupy. How does your cultural background influence your leadership style? #Leadership #CulturalIntelligence #ReframingLeadership #Māori #Pasifika #VoicesAndVoyages

During the Rajasuya Yagna, Yudhishthira, despite being a king, humbly chose Krishna as the guest of honor, recognizing his wisdom and righteousness over power or status. When Shishupala insulted Krishna publicly, Krishna remained calm, embodying true leadership by not reacting in anger. Only after giving Shishupala several chances did Krishna act decisively, restoring order. This story showcases grounded leadership — Yudhishthira’s humility in valuing virtue over status, and Krishna’s ability to stay composed, reflecting leadership rooted in wisdom and principles. This story exemplifies leadership that is both humble and grounded in wisdom. Yudhishthira’s choice to honor Krishna reflects his own deep understanding of leadership rooted in virtue, while Krishna’s calm response under pressure shows how authentic leaders remain grounded in their principles, no matter the circumstances. ( story from Indian Itihasa & Purana- Mahabharata) As a business coach, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of this hands-on leadership. It’s not just about technical know-how; it’s about connecting authentically with your team and elevating their potential. What’s your perspective on leadership grounded in experience? I'd love to hear your thoughts. #Leadership #GroundedLeadership #Mahabharata #WisdomInLeadership #Humility #Krishna #Yudhishthira #LeadershipPrinciples #ValuesBasedLeadership #AuthenticLeadership

Is the term "leader" truly defined by others, or does it reflect an inner journey? Throughout my career, many have expressed their opinions, suggesting that I am not a leader. But does leadership conform to external definitions, or is it a manifestation of one's beliefs and actions?True leadership is not merely a title bestowed by others; it is a demonstration of resilience, empathy, and the ability to inspire and drive change, even in the face of adversity. It encompasses a vision and acts as a beacon, guiding others without the need for external validation.Every time someone labeled me as "not a leader," I used it as an opportunity to redefine leadership in my terms. It’s a continuous, introspective journey of how you inspire and empower people around you. So, I pose this question: Should leadership be boxed within societal constructs, or should it be a personal testament of one's values and influence? Let's explore and redefine what it truly means to lead. #LeadershipRedefined #LeadWithEmpathy #InspireChange #AuthenticLeadership #LeadershipJourney #VisionaryLeadership #LeadershipMatters #EmpowermentThroughLeadership #LeadershipDevelopment #LeadershipMindset #InnovativeLeadership #InclusiveLeadership #LeadershipInAction #LeadershipTransformation #LeadershipInIndia #IndianLeaders #IndiaLeadership #LeadershipInsights #LeadershipSuccessIndia #EmpoweringIndia

Leadership isn’t about titles or control—it’s about creating spaces where people can truly be. How often do we, as leaders, pause to nurture the human-being behind the professional role? 🌿 At WorkCoherence, we’ve seen that the most impactful leadership happens when we prioritize trust, purpose, and authenticity. Our founder, Lara Bezerra, draws from ancient philosophies and her own transformative experiences to remind us of this truth: 🧘♀️ Timeless Wisdom for Modern Leadership: 1️⃣ Vedanta – Purpose is the foundation. Teams thrive when guided by meaningful actions. 2️⃣ Taoism – Authenticity creates flexibility, allowing leaders to foster environments where others can flourish. 3️⃣ Buddhism – True leadership is about empowerment and shared growth. ✨ In Venezuela, Lara’s leadership transformed teams by fostering emotional reflection and trust-building, even amidst crises. ✨ In India, aligning personal purpose with organizational mission strengthened bonds and inspired innovation across teams. Leadership Question: How are you nurturing purpose, trust, and growth within your organization? INDRIYAJAYAH- The Swami/Swamini Mindset Great leaders like Chandragupta Maurya, Emperor Ashoka, Shivaji Maharaj and JRD Tata exemplify visionary leadership, channeling their energies toward the greater good. However, some promising leaders succumb to worldly temptations, despite their potential, and suffer a dramatic downfall. The distinguishing factor lies in their inner world management. Only by mastering their own senses can leaders effect transformative change in their surroundings. Eternal Indian wisdom, as shared by Kautilya (Acharya Chanakya) and other revered gurus, underscores the importance of 'Indriyajayah' or 'Conquering Self' – a concept pivotal to leadership development. Tune in to listen to this profound concept from Rajesh Kamath. #Arthashaastra #dharm #seva #Samashti #IndianWisdom #LeadershipDevelopment #Leadership"

🌟 Embracing Our Inner "Wicked": The Power of Bold Leadership 🌟 After watching the movie Wicked, I have drawn most inspiration from the character of Elphaba. Because of her diverging nature, Elphaba is mostly an outcast. Her story also teaches a very important life lesson about leadership: those who defy the norm and decide to be "wicked"......end up changing the world for the better. Leaders must remember that differences shouldn't be viewed as an imperfection but as an advantage. For instance, Elphaba was one individual who dared to speak against the broken system, just like any other great leader would; they would say in favor of what they thought was right, even if it meant they risked being unpopular. In contrast to a world that rewards maintaining the status quo, let us appreciate those unique individuals willing to stand out and advocate for change. The most effective leaders are often deemed "out of the norm." They challenge the existing systems and encourage others to do so as well. So, to all the "evil" leaders out there, remember to fight for your vision and continue crossing social boundaries. Leading a nation is about having the courage to be yourself, and while crazy leaders are not ideal, they still have a role to play. And so, we must respect those leaders for setting the passion for change above them.💚✨ #Leadership #Wicked #Authenticity #ChangeMakers #Inspiration #Elphaba #EmbraceDifferences

Powerful message from a dear friend and trusted thought-partner! Be unapologetically yourself, stand in your beliefs, and do things the way that makes the most sense to you. I truly began living into my fullest potential when I fully embraced my weird. I know I’m awkward, I know I do things in a manner that has never made sense to my peers—even from a young age. I used to try to show up to work as a fully-put-together person, but that was a mask—in truth, I’m sweaty, my hands are always clammy, and I see the world differently than most—when I started appreciating that my way is often misunderstood, but always brings better than expected results, I started meeting people where they are, even if they had sweaty hands—because I’ve had a few people believe so deeply in me that I started to believe it myself! I lead a team that knows—we’ve got one another, we will fill in for each other when life happens and someone can’t make a commitment—there’s no worry, there are 3 others happy to fill in so that we can have the balance of work and life, always making sure people are our top priority. The rest works itself out anyhow. (Best part?! We have fun while we make a tremendous impact!) #DementiaNerd #TeamDementia #GreatPlacetoWork #BrightviewSeniorLiving
