🖐 Ever wondered how your hand can perform everything from delicate movements like typing to powerful grips like lifting weights? It’s all thanks to the amazing collaboration between the bones and ligaments in your hand! The carpal bones form the foundation, providing stability and flexibility at your wrist. The metacarpals connect the wrist to your fingers, while the phalanges allow intricate finger movements. Holding it all together are the collateral ligaments for joint stability and the transverse carpal ligament, which forms the carpal tunnel. These structures work in harmony, enabling the incredible range of motion and strength we often take for granted. Want to see how it all works in stunning detail? 🔍 Essential Anatomy & Surgical Techniques of MCL Reconstruction A deep understanding of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) anatomy can be the difference between a good and great reconstruction outcome. 💡 Surgical precision starts with knowing the complex structures that support knee stability. At the recent BOSTAA event, Mr. Bobby Anand shared key insights into the MCL’s three essential components: 1. Superficial MCL (sMCL) – recognised as most important section, being a primary internal rotation stabiliser. 2. Deep MCL (dMCL) – a capsular-like attachment with distinct meniscofemoral & shorter meniscotibial components. 3. Posterior Oblique Ligament (POL) – another primary stabilizer for internal rotation. Using the Infinity-Lock 5mm Tape, coupled with precise anatomical knowledge, is leading to promising results in MCL reconstruction. 👉Discover more about our MCL reconstruction products: https://lnkd.in/eMZaFBEP ⏰Early look: Watch Bobby Anand’s surgical technique animation for a step-by-step overview: https://lnkd.in/djhsEWVS

I found this when looking back through my data: a very neat 3D reconstruction of the hair cells of the mouse inner ear created by my esteemed colleague Roberto Alvarez Jr on the Leica Stellaris STED using one of my samples. In this case I believe the yellow is Myo7a and green is GFP. Seeing the data in 3D is helpful, especially when you're used to scrolling through 2D stacks. #hearing #otolaryngology

What makes the muscular artery so vital to your circulatory system? Muscular arteries are the superheroes of your circulatory system, perfectly engineered to handle blood flow and pressure. These medium-sized arteries, like the femoral or radial arteries, play a critical role in delivering oxygen-rich blood to your organs and tissues. What makes them fascinating? Their unique structure allows them to expand and contract with precision, controlling blood distribution as your body’s needs change—whether you're running a marathon or simply at rest. These arteries can even adapt to long-term changes in blood pressure, showcasing their incredible resilience. Want to see the intricate details of a muscular artery in action? #spinethought Modern technologies do make education easier. When you are training residents who might have never seen iliolumbar fixation or iliac screws, 3D visualization on CT or volume xray can be very helpful. Also for patients who are usually far from really understanding the anatomy and the surgical process, this might shed some light into the darkness.
