✈️📢FUN FACT FRIDAY!!! 📢✈️ Introducing Fun Fact Friday!!📢🔥✈️ Each week we will be bringing you fun facts about aviation that you didn’t know you needed! ✈️🔥 Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for takeoff ✈️ FUN FACT #1 In 1997 American Airlines saved $40,000 annually by removing one olive from the first-class salads 🫒✈️ FUN FACT #2 The amount of fuel that goes into a Boeing 747, could fill 1,400 mini vans ⛽️✈️ FUN FACT #3 Falcons fly for free on Etihad Airways: Falcons are culturally hugely important in the UAE - Etihad is one of the UAE’s two flag carriers - and Falcons are the country’s national bird. Travellers can board with one free falcon per person, plus two per additional seat 🦅✈️ FUN FACT #4 Ghost Flights: When you see a plane pass above you in the sky, there’s a decent chance it has no passengers. In 2022, 5,000 completely empty flights passed through UK Airports since 2019. The crazy thing is, there’s no official explanation why! The most common theory is that they exist to retain coveted slots in airport timetables 👻✈️ FUN FACT #5 There have been snakes on planes: 🐍 On a recent United Airlines flight between Tampa and Newark, a stowaway garter snake slithered through business class causing panicked passages and crew members. Fortunately garter snakes are harmless, but as Samuel L Jackson would say: “get these….” (You know the quote) 🐍✈️ #Aviation #AviationFacts #FunFactFriday #VolantesTechnicalRecruitment #HappyFriday #FridayFacts

Aviation Biggest Unsolved Problem - Aircraft Boarding! Airlines ✈ have long struggled and searched for the magic formula for boarding an aircraft – but has mostly eluded them! As planes have got fuller & busier both from a passenger & a carry-on bag perspective, boarding an aircraft in many cases is still a free for all! 📌 Airlines have tried groups & zones 📌 United Airlines has WILMA, it’s window-to-aisle boarding process, which the airline says saves an average of two minutes per flight! 📌 Delta has also revamped its where passengers will be assigned a zone number and board the plane sequentially in numerical order. 📌 British Airways has rolled out Group 0 boarding on all flights, in addition to the existing Group 1-9 concept. Group 0 is intended specifically for British Airways Gold Guest List and Premier customers. 📌 Indigo Airlines introduced a new three-point disembarkation process in 2022 enabling passengers to exit the aircraft around 6 minutes faster. But, boarding today is still a mix of long, confused queues and people jostling around for space in aircraft aisles & cabin bins! $500 million for the person who can solve it! #aviation #travel

New Zealand has to keep trying to beat Australia 😄 🤣 Air New Zealand, has been awarded the 'safest airline' for 2024 gaining top spot from Qantas. The annual AirlineRatings.com report is out and they have determined the top 10 safest Airlines in ranking are, Air New Zealand, Qantas, Virgin Australia, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Emirates, All Nippon Airways, Finnair, Cathay Pacific, Alaska Airlines And as Geoffrey Thomas has written, Air NZ does operate in some extremely challenging weather environments such as Wellington and Queenstown. I have flown all of these airlines and in fact, all the airlines listed in the top 20, the margin between all in terms of safety is very small. I am surprised however that Singapore Airlines is not in the top 10. But value for money, cost of ticket, direct service, lounge, it's all an essential part of selecting the airline. IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) Cathay Pacific Emirates Air India Limited Vistara - TATA SIA Airlines Ltd. Gulf Air Qatar Airways Oman Air American Airlines Japan Airlines Air France Turkish Airlines Swiss International Air Lines A solution to link the luggage directly to the owner using QR code. The baggage belt should have a casing or hook that unlocks the baggage with the QR code or scan of boarding pass. This ensures luggage safety and accountability. Even if luggage is lost or misplaced, the link can connect it back to the original owner instantly. So whether it's unclaimed baggage or loaded on a different aircraft, the QR code can be scanned revealing all the details of the passenger to connect with. Also prevents theft of luggage from the belt since the casing or hook will only unlock with the verified scan. Not sure if it's already existing, just putting this idea out there. #airlines #travel #luggage #baggage #lostbaggage #passengers

We have a new fleet leader. United Airlines now operates more seats in its fleet than any other airline. Our weekly newsletter examines the change in fleet sizes over the past year using ch-aviation fleet data. United has overtaken American in the top spot with over 175,000 seats in its active fleet — and that's just mainline. Other movers and shakers include Qatar Airways and Ryanair, while the big European airlines take a breather. But, most interesting is the mystery airline which returns to the top 20 in 2024. With an increase of over 38% in active seats compared to last year, which airline now sits at the number 17 spot? We do premium aviation research - but the weekly newsletter is free: https://lnkd.in/gbPbNStj #aviation #airlinesandairplanes

Airbus has always been a pioneer in the Aviation Industry! When they introduced the A300B2/B4, they came up with the concept of a large aircraft twin! The others had to rethink 3 engines concept, for good. They came up with the fly by wire, A320, then introduced the 321,319,318 to achieve commonality, not only in pilot/ technician training but also reducing the cost of inventory spare parts, among other benefits. Later, they came up with the A330/ A340 commonality with A320, needing only CCQ training upgrade. So it is understandable and completely expected to have the A350/A380 a common license after a proper risk assessment. Although, most of my flying hours were on Boeing Aircraft ( B737, B707, B747and B777) I always admired Airbus in their innovative spirit. Also, they have a very solid operational/safety research strategy, which helped me as a pilot flying Boeing aircraft. I will mention two examples: the first, they added the phrase, Pilots should perform the Take off, go minded! The second, they let the call for a missed approach’Go Around Flaps’ ! The reasons are self explanatory.
This milestone positions Etihad as one of the first airlines globally to attain such versatility in its pilot capabilities.
