2025 IS A BREAKTHROUGH YEAR FOR E-MOBILITY Here are my arguments: 🇨🇳 Chinese manufacturers (which offer high quality vehicles at very competitive prices) are on the rise, flooding the global markets with affordable products (see link below in the comments as one example), despite EU efforts to keep them out with high import taxes 🇪🇺 The EU Commission (Ursula von der Leyen) confirmed, that new combustion engine vehicles will be banned in 2035 (as previously planned) 🇩🇪 Germany, the "motherland" of cars, is facing a serious challenge: Volkswagen, AUDI AG, Mercedes-Benz AG, BMW Group all have to reduce their fleet emissions by 15% this year. Some try to pool their emission (see link below in the comments). Nevertheless, pressure to bring more electric vehicles to the market is high, which means that they will most likely be sold at a significant discount (driving sales) What's your take on this topic? I came across this McKinsey & Company's roadmap for the automotive in EU published one year ago. This is a complex market, always very competitive, I remember when C. Gosn from Renault said (when the group used to make around 2 million cars/year in a market of 90 million) that if Renault just disappeared, the global market would barely feel it. Current competition is even fiercer, with high pressure from China, hence, Europe must push hard and keep innovating in sustainability, circularity and customer requirements comprehension if this industry is to survive and thrive. I have no comments on this particular roadmap, nevertheless it gives something to think about, glad to share!

"Normally, a commercial-vehicle trade fair and Formula 1 have little in common. In today’s world at least, 40-ton trucks with slick tires and ceramic disc brakes are still the exception. But if you look at the industry as a whole, the current situation is actually a bit like the start of the Grand Prix season. The race for the right powertrain technology for commercial vehicles is still wide open: it’s difficult to estimate how fast infrastructure will develop, and the regulatory framework is still the subject of heated debate." https://lnkd.in/dJEGZTqb

🥇 It's always great to meet clients at their home turf, and while Norway does have a great shipping cluster, the automotive scene is rather scarce... so happy that our big brother to the East - Sweden - is home of two great brands - Polestar and Volvo Cars - which happens to be our first Automotive OEM Esgian Shipping clients. 🎯A big thanks to my friend Jørgen Storm Oksum, Head of Sales of Polestar here in Norway for letting us test drive the newest addition to the Polestar portfolio - the fantastic Polestar 4. 💡 Just like us in Esgian, they think outside the box and create something unique. Great cars, so if you haven't tried one yet... suggest you do 😉 #automotive #shipping #roro #pctc #marketinsights #decarbonization #partnerships #collaboration
Workshop "Next Door" In late September, the Esgian Shipping team took a roadtrip down South to visit our first Automotive OEM clients - Volvo Cars and Polestar at the latter's cool headquarters just outside Gothenburg. While digital tools are great, nothing really beats F2F meetings right? Very good discussions on how we can further improve and refine our unique Esgian Shipping Suite for RoRo to meet the demands of global automotive OEMS. A special "tackar" to Alexandra Odbjer for orchestrating the workshop with common discussions and breakout rooms - even virtual post-its 😉 Simen and Stian returned back North (in a Polestar of course...) with lots of good feedback, so stay tuned for many exciting new features and improvements to come - both in terms of commercial analytics and CO2 emission benchmarking and reporting. #collaboration #shipping #partnerships #automotive #transparency #decarbonization #roro #pctc #supplychain
