An innovative idea from ASDA to drive up loyalty! Not just competing on price but purpose. It will be interesting to see if this approach connects with consumers. Loyalty is just the absence of something better let’s see if this is and how competitors respond!
Asda has today announced that it is making millions of pounds available to UK primary schools by encouraging families to use its loyalty programme – Asda Rewards. In a game changing new campaign, fronted by Joe Wicks the supermarket is offering to donate 0.5% of the value of any shop done at Asda until 30th November 2024 to customers’ primary school of choice – when they shop using Asda Rewards. David Hills, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer said; “The entire team at Asda are absolutely delighted to launch Cashpot for Schools today – an initiative that is testament to our commitment to supporting families, and evidence of the incredible opportunity created by our Asda Rewards programme. “We know that 87% of families are asked to contribute to their primary school to support funding – with some families contributing up to £138 per year, which is a significant sum when budgets remain tight. “The power of Asda Rewards means we can create a route for them to donate directly to their school, simply by doing their normal shopping with Asda and benefiting from the great value we offer everyday, as well as topping up their own Cashpot. It’s a game changing initiative for schools and a win win for customers.”

Taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks to raise funds for Magic Breakfast On the 18th of May, en enthusiastic and slightly mad group of Magic Breakfast colleagues and I will be taking on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge! Magic Breakfast works exists to ensure that every child in the UK can make the most of their education without being distracted by hunger. Every school day, as many one in every five children is arriving at school on an empty stomach, and we're on a mission to stop that. We know the impact that a Magic Breakfast can have, so we've decided to go the 'extra mile' (or 24.5 to be precise) to raise funds for children who are at risk of morning hunger. On 18th May, we'll be getting up bright and early (come rain or shine - and let's face it, the North of England isn't known for its balmy weather!) to take on Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, better known as the Yorkshire Three Peaks. We've been warned that we'll need to be on our feet for 12 hours, during which time we'll be ascending over 5,000 ft. We're all training hard in preparation, but some moral support and sponsorship could really give us a boost as we await the big day! We know it will be tough, but one thing we won't need to worry about is keeping fuelled up. Sadly, that isn't the case for the young people Magic Breakfast supports. Having breakfast at school has a hugely positive impact on a young person's education. For pupils in disadvantaged communities, a decent breakfast has been proven to positively impact their education, concentration, focus and behaviour. Just 28p can give a can give a child a nutritious breakfast as well as wrap-around support. If we reach our target, we could fund a whopping 5,357 breakfasts! We would be so grateful if you can donate what you can. Here is the link to our fundraising page: https://lnkd.in/edU_gwfp

Our Summer Playschemes programme – which supports many struggling families excluded from Government-funded summer holiday activity schemes – provided: · 1,589 hours of provision · 10,769 individual meals · Supported 960 children and young people · Enabled 336 total sessions across 17 different locations, ran by local charities and voluntary organisations. Averaging 20 sessions per Playscheme throughout the summer. Holiday hunger continues to be a significant challenge that makes school holidays a stressful time for families. This is exacerbated by the difficulty of finding affordable activities for their children that stimulate them physically and mentally. Parents and carers themselves are also affected, often having to make a choice between spending time at home and working to provide for their families. This summer was further complicated by the threat of, and fallout from, the riots that affected multiple towns across the country. For the third year, the Playschemes programme has once again been able to help some of these charities to provide regular support for as many disadvantaged children and young people as possible, regardless of whether they have been able to access Government funding. This would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors, who collectively gave £122,695 from their own Funds or through additional donations, complemented by a contribution from our own Cost-of-Living Fund. To highlight the scale of what has been achieved this year, we have produced a short report - written by Ross Wilson - which you can access in the comments section below.

Cougs - https://lnkd.in/gBHGymBu Huskies - https://lnkd.in/g5tQefpK College hunger is a far too common experience on college campuses where the costs of tuition, housing, books, and groceries intersect, and nearly 40% of students don’t get enough to eat. Our Back To School Campaign launches today. In this special video, CEO Anna Pangbourne explains why so many families need support and how you can get involved to support families across the sector. Throughout July, our campaign aims to raise funds needed to cover the costs of school uniforms, study furniture and laptops and tablets for children of families facing financial hardship amid the cost of living crisis. There are two ways for companies and individuals to support our campaign: Donate: https://lnkd.in/ew_6adjx Fundraise: Order your fundraising pack by emailing fundraising@ftct.org.uk What parents are facing A recent survey of 54 parents working within the UK fashion and textile industry who had received grants from FTCT has found that: 🎒 75% of respondents reported experiencing extreme stress due to back-to-school expenses. ✏ 70% of parents find it impossible to set aside money specifically for back-to-school expenses. The campaign will run throughout July and aims to raise £5,000, the equivalent of a full school uniform for 25 children. #mybacktoschoolcost #fundraising

Charities: expected to keep going at all costs, without adequate funding, without time to maintain a proper strategy - just carry on flying the plane while you fix it. Funders: we're closing while we develop a new strategy and manage unprecedented demand. See you in a year, thanks and goodbye! 👋🏼 Charities: expected to maintain safe, reliable and robust systems at all times, despite a lack of proper capacity, training and funding. Charity Commission: hey guys, we've shut off a key website feature (the ability to download annual accounts) after weeks of trying and failing to fix our site and manage demand. Never mind eh, I'm sure you'll forgive a bit of ongoing technical incompetence 🤷🏽 I'm SO tired of these unfair double standards, the unrealistic expectations on charities, and what it's doing to the sector 🤬
