We are facing an energy affordability crisis. The families and communities hit hardest by the impact of dirty fossil fuels are also the ones facing the biggest energy costs. A staggering 38% of people in the U.S. are dealing with high energy burdens, spending too much of their income for essential services. Local solar solutions can reduce household energy burden. It offers a new pathway to shift economic and power structures and reimagine a clean energy future that puts people first.

In the quest to ensure universal energy access, we often hear about the ‘leave no one behind’ principle. But on this #InternationalDayofLight, we are being very specific. We must not leave anyone in the dark! The transformative impact of light in all aspects of life cannot be gainsaid. Light or electricity is at the centre of the world’s innovations, prosperity and societal advancement and although it has not yet been recognized as such, the reality is, energy access is a fundamental human right. Simply put, light is the lifeline of all modern society. It is for this reason that we remain committed to efforts towards accelerating access to clean, affordable energy for all, particularly in unserved and underserved communities. We are striving to illuminate a brighter future for everyone and by so doing, helping lift millions of people out of poverty. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels

We have seen how quickly price fluctuations can hit our wallets. 📈 Only a few companies can profit from this. But the bill is paid by everyone. There’s another way ❗️ 📌 Decentralising power generation brings you great advantages. 🔋 📌 Plants in your region secure the supply and support the local economy and communities. 💡 In this way, locally generated energy can better distribute prosperity. That helps the climate and makes your life even better. 💶 Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung #EnergyTransition #DecentralizedEnergy #ClimateAction #LocalEconomy #SustainableFuture #EnergyIndependence #RenewableEnergy #EnergyForAll #Freedom #ClimateProtection

#upgsustainability Affordable and clean Energy: People need cheap energy to light their homes and streets, use computers to do their daily business. The problem is that the way we provide energy effect the climate negatively, for instance: greenhouse gas emission. Instead we can invest on clean energy sources such as solar and wind. That is the only way to protect our environment.

Let’s look at the bigger picture here. The government’s focus on wind turbines and similar large-scale projects seems like a no-brainer because they appear cheaper and easier to roll out. But this top-down approach leaves homeowners in a bit of a bind, facing unpredictable energy bills and increasing fuel poverty. The RETROFIT-AT-SCALE publication from LETI sheds light on a much-needed alternative. By prioritising home retrofits, we can directly reduce energy demand right at the source. This doesn’t just make homes more energy-efficient and shield residents from the volatile energy market, it also lessens the need to pump loads of cash into scaling up the building of an extensive national grid network. Here's the kicker – when we make homes more efficient, we don’t need as much energy infrastructure to deliver power across the country. In the end, those wind turbines might not be as cheap as they seem when you factor in the massive grid network required to distribute that energy. The solution LETI presents is all about a bottom-up approach – empowering homeowners and communities to take control of their energy use, slashing emissions, and building resilience. The report is crafted by a dedicated team of experts who are passionate about paving a more sustainable and equitable path to net zero. #retrofit #energysaving #refurbishment #nationalgrid #communityenergy Download the report from https://lnkd.in/e4RrFwmf

"#Energy defines our existence, fuelling our bodies and our lifestyles. It is at the centre of Earth’s living systems – it is the basic building blocks of the entire universe. Our misuse of energy is also at the heart of the greatest challenges we face today. The burning of hydrocarbons at a global and industrial scale is driving up temperatures to record levels. Fires and floods rage across the world, with the countries that have contributed least paying the highest price. In Europe we are facing a cost of living crisis as gas and electricity bills have skyrocketed, while energy companies continue to rake in eye-watering profits. As well as food banks, we now have heat banks, as many families can no longer afford to keep warm. "The way we consume energy is an economic, social and political issue. To halt the destruction we wreak on our planet through our addiction to fossil fuels, we have to transition to renewable energy – solar, wind, wave. To release this power, we need to empower local communities, or we risk fueling an economic system that exacerbates inequality." https://lnkd.in/eMF27JZq

The future of energy is shifting, but who's shouldering the burden? At the Livable Cities Forum by ICLEI Canada, a crucial issue emerged from the energy equity/poverty session led by Shauna Sylvester, Claire Beckstead, Cecilia Jaques, and Glen Cheetham, BA, CEM —what happens to those left behind as we transition from natural gas to electricity and decentralised energy? Picture this: fewer users, but the same distribution costs. It's a recipe for skyrocketing bills, hitting hardest equity-denied folks who are already struggling to make ends meet. As energy landscapes evolve, so must our solutions for equity. We cannot allow this transition to deepen the divide. How can we ensure no one is left out in the cold? What innovative solutions do you see for this pressing challenge? #LCF2024 #ClimateAction #ClimateJustice #EnergyPoverty #EnergyEquity #CommunityEngagement
