Transit fleet electrification is a three-sided problem as it requires 1- Finding the best charger locations, 2- Optimizing the charging schedule, and 3- Selecting the ideal electric bus type. We developed an interactive tool for transit fleet electrification. The tool maximizes the number of electrified buses while optimizing their en-route charging schedule subject to operational constraints, such as the limited number of outlets at each station, battery capacity, minimum safety charge, and allowable layover times for charging. The tool summarizes fleet performance, charging profiles at each station, and the charging schedule for each bus. This has been a joint work with WSP and Gera Taubkin as our main industry champion. In collaboration with Behnaz Naeimian and Ghazaleh Mohseni. interactive-or.com #electricbus #greenenergy #charging #transit #sustainability #charginginfrastructure

Understanding Traction and Auxiliary Converters in Metro and Train Systems Modern metro and train systems rely on traction and auxiliary converters to ensure efficient operation, safety, and energy optimization. These converters play a crucial role in powering the train's motors and supporting critical onboard systems. 1. Traction Converters: Powering Train Movement Traction converters manage the power supplied to the train’s traction motors. These converters handle the conversion of electrical energy from overhead lines or third rails into a suitable form to propel the train. - AC/DC Conversion: Traction converters adapt high-voltage AC or DC from the grid to the appropriate voltage and frequency for traction motors. - Precise Control: Using pulse-width modulation (PWM) technology, they finely control motor speed and torque, adjusting as needed for acceleration and deceleration. - Regenerative Braking: Traction converters also allow for regenerative braking, where energy produced during braking is captured and converted into electricity, feeding it back into the grid, boosting overall energy efficiency. 2. Auxiliary Converters: Powering Onboard Systems While traction converters handle propulsion, auxiliary converters provide power for all other critical systems onboard the train, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment for passengers. They supply energy to: - HVAC Systems: Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems that keep passengers comfortable during the journey. - Lighting: Power for both interior and exterior lighting systems. - Door Operations: Automated door opening and closing mechanisms. - Passenger Information Systems: Displays and communication systems that keep passengers informed about the journey, safety information, and announcements. 3. Integration and Efficiency Both converters work together seamlessly in modern trains, ensuring optimized energy consumption and overall efficiency: - Traction converters focus on delivering optimal power to the motors, ensuring smooth acceleration and deceleration while conserving energy through regenerative braking. - Auxiliary converters ensure that critical systems such as lighting, HVAC, and door functions operate continuously and efficiently without drawing unnecessary power. Both these converters are essential for the efficient, safe, and comfortable operation of modern rail systems. They ensure that trains run smoothly while conserving energy, improving reliability, and reducing the environmental impact of rail transport. As cities continue to expand their metro and train networks, these technologies will play an increasingly critical role in providing sustainable, energy-efficient transportation solutions. #RailwayTechnology #MetroSystems #TractionConverters #AuxiliaryConverters #SustainableTransport #EnergyEfficiency #RailInnovation

The most efficient and cost-effective power supply for railways is electric energy fed via overhead catenary or third rail. However, if this is not possible and the operator wishes to extend service to non-electrified sections, Alstom's #GreenTraction solution with local zero CO2 emissions is the best option. Furthermore, #GreenTraction can be integrated into #Adessia commuter trains to support the evolution of urban areas. https://lnkd.in/d3EBpkyb
