A successful morning workshop at this year’s TSG2025, focusing on digital outcrops and VRGS led by David Hodgetts and Brian Burnham, PhD, FGS was followed by an engaging afternoon session on fracture logging in core, led by experts from the British Geological Survey. It was fantastic to see such a great group of participants, with lots of insightful questions and lively discussions throughout the day. A big thank you to the organisers for putting together such an informative and well-run event!

The ability to monitor large areas for slope stability and deformation is key for risk mitigation, especially in mining projects where safety is critical. A number of solutions for monitoring at different scales have emerged; how do stakeholders evaluate and combine these technologies for effective risk-mitigation actions? Come join 3vG's Jon Leighton and GroundProbe's Antonio C. Rocha, MSc in a live webinar as they discuss the utilization of ground-based radar and satellite-based InSAR as complementary tools in a comprehensive geotechnical monitoring plan. In this webinar, you will discover how to maximize the benefits of combining these two technologies. By merging satellite-based InSAR with ground-based radar, those involved will have the opportunity to utilize the advantages of both technologies in order to improve their monitoring choices. Below are my answers for "How does the thin near surface of the earth produce up to 100 times more seismic noise on land seismic data than on marine data?" This has novel implications for how to improve land seismic acquisition and processing in difficult areas. I will discuss this in my SEG Distinguished Lecture on May 23. Summary and Registration is here: https://lnkd.in/gZU5zkXz

Here is another interesting example comparing different land seismic acquisition. The buried geophones again have much less noise. The buried hydrophones have even further less noise! The shear wave plays an important role for land seismic noise even with vertical geophones. This has interesting implications...... I will discuss this and more in the upcoming free SEG Distinguished Lecture: https://lnkd.in/gZU5zkXz
