Environment & Education, Correlative? June 5th, the day celebrated as “World Environment Day”! 🌱🌍 It originated in the year 1972 for the awareness and maintaining harmony between human beings and the Environment. June 5th is a global initiative to raise awareness and inspire action for environmental protection. The day highlights the urgent need to address environmental issues such as pollution, deforestation, and climate change, fostering a collective responsibility to protect and preserve our planet for future generations. Several years passed and we have realized the importance of the Environment, now and then. Humans without the environment are insignificant. 🤝🪴 The correlation between living beings and the environment is magical. Standing in 2024, it is more relevant to save the environment anyhow. But the question is how we can make it more effective. And the solution is, through Education. Education is the most effective way to increase awareness. It offers a vital chance to integrate environmental stewardship into education. Educational Institutions can organize eco-workshops, tree plantings, and clean-up drives, transforming theoretical knowledge into practical action. This fosters critical thinking, community responsibility, and a culture of sustainability. 🪄📚🌍 Let’s use the strongest Weapon of education to make this planet a better place to live.☮😌 CollegeChalo is with the “Environment Day” initiative with all the partner educational institutions. 📕📘 #environmentday #natureslove #sustainability #collegechalo

As an environmental science student entering my final year, I've realized that our planet's health is intricately linked to our well-being and that of the generations to come. Each action we take today ripples into the future, shaping the world our children and grandchildren will inherit. Throughout my journey, I've strived to contribute positively to our environment in various ways. From participating in community awareness campaigns to promoting sustainable practices on campus, every effort counts. I've also delved into research projects aiming to understand and mitigate the impact of human activities on ecosystems. Yet, I believe there's always more we can do. That's why I'm curious: what innovative initiatives do you think we can undertake to further nurture and protect our environment? Whether it's implementing green technologies, fostering eco-conscious policies, or promoting environmental education, I'm eager to hear your thoughts. Together, let's continue to pave the way for a healthier, more sustainable future for all. #EnvironmentalCare #Sustainability #FutureGenerations

Reflecting on Coimbra Circular: Climate Activism in the Modern World 🌍 Yesterday, I had the privilege of participating in a powerful roundtable 🗣️ at Coimbra Circular alongside Maria Paixão (Lawyer, PhD student at Universidade de Coimbra, member of Climáximo) and Maria Lourenço (activist from Fridays For Future International and Greve Climática Estudantil). Moderated by the brilliant Karoline Vitali, also a PhD student in law, we dived into the many faces of climate activism—answering audience questions and exploring everything from direct, impactful actions to the transformative power of environmental education, which we all highlighted as a 🔑 key tool to reshape societies' view 👀 of the climate crisis. For over an hour, we discussed how science-based activism and education can drive real change. I obviously focused on composting 🪱 as my main theme of research and activism, but no one is surprised by that, right? Let's keep raising awareness and pushing boundaries for a better planet. 💚🌱 #CoimbraCircular #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalEducation #ClimateActivism

Why environmental science? To me, it is a very practical field. Studying environmental science offers numerous personal and societal benefits. It helps understand Earth's systems, including air, water, soil, and ecosystems, and how human activities affect the environment and human health. It also addresses climate change, teaching about its causes, impact on ecosystems, and adaptation methods. Environmental science also teaches sustainable practices, minimizing damage to the planet and reducing waste. It also helps protect endangered species and preserve biodiversity, focusing on complex interactions within ecosystems. Pollution control is another area of study, focusing on air and water quality, hazardous waste management, and contaminated sites. A degree in environmental science can lead to various career opportunities, such as environmental consulting, conservation, sustainability management, policy development, and renewable energy sectors. Environmental factors directly affect human health, and environmental scientists work to reduce exposure to harmful pollutants and design solutions for healthier communities. Studying environmental science provides knowledge to influence environmental policy, advocate for change, and work with governments and organizations to address pressing environmental issues like deforestation, ocean pollution, and climate policy. Environmental science also provides tools for making informed decisions about living sustainably and reducing ecological footprints. Global challenges, such as deforestation and plastic pollution, are addressed through environmental science, equipping individuals with the skills to tackle global environmental problems that affect not only the natural world but also economies and societies. Overall, studying environmental science helps individuals become part of the solution to some of the most pressing challenges of our time. #environmentalscience #globalissue #fieldwork #innovationandsustainability #work #linkedin #SGS

What is the role of universities at a time of climate and ecological crisis? "If human-caused climate and ecological change is one of the greatest challenges humanity has ever faced, then universities have a responsibility to generate the knowledge and empower citizens with the skills required to respond to it." But do they? James Dyke and George Monbiot try to find an answer to this question. Full article here: https://lnkd.in/egHSTYvb Being someone who teaches #sustainabilityscience, #sustainableinnovation and #sustainabledevelopment I also have my two cents: 1️⃣ Sustainability science is ignored and misrepresented. Despite the sustainability crisis affecting every aspect of society, most programmes do not offer modules in sustainability science. "How does the sustainable crisis impact our discipline?" should be a compulsory question answered in every programme. 2️⃣ Most staff is left oblivious of the #sustainabilitycrisis. A University is a micro-society with administrators, lawyers, librarians, and technicians. They are half of the people who live at the university daily but are left ignorant about what the sustainable crisis means to them and what to do about it. With appropriate induction modules, the educational contribution of universities in the surrounding society would be tenfold. This is something I am proposing at the University of Surrey. 🤞 3️⃣ The disciplinary structure of universities limits systemic solutions. Rigid disciplines and programmes, strict administrative hierarchies, and analytical, content-focused education leave little room to frame systemic conversations and solutions. Let's embrace the complexity of sustainable development and design, implement, and monitor evidence-based solutions. Let's empower everyone at universities to build a sustainable reality. #facultyforafuture Thanks Dr. Avit K. Bhowmik for the link.

What does it mean to be environmentally educated? In a world where climate change and environmental degradation are becoming increasingly prevalent, the answer is more critical than ever. Environmental education equips us with the knowledge and tools necessary to face the ecological challenges of the 21st century. But what does it mean, really, to be environmentally educated? ✅It's an understanding of the interconnectedness of all life on Earth. ✅ It's the ability to assess environmental issues critically and make informed decisions. ✅ It's the desire and capability to act - individually or collectively, to resolve environmental challenges. 💭Consider this - though we’re surrounded by increasing talk of 'going green' - do we truly understand the full implications of our actions on the environment? For instance, do we know the true cost of our dependency on single-use plastics? Do we comprehend the impact of rising CO2 levels? Environmental education can no longer be a sidelined subject; it must be a core part of our learning, from childhood to adulthood. It’s not just for the academics, the activists, or the policy makers. It's for everyone. We have the power to shape the future - for ourselves and for the generations to come. But this begins with acknowledging that we’re #PartOfTheSolution. 🔹What sustainable practices have you integrated in your lives? 🔹How did environmental education shape these choices? Let’s get this conversation started. After all, we’re all in this together. Every conscious effort counts, every voice matters. #environmentaleducation #sustainability #climateaction #ecofriendly #sustainableliving #ClimateChange
