This topic really hits close to home. As someone part of the veterinary community, I understand the immense pressures and emotional toll that come with this profession. The statistics on mental health and suicide among veterinarians are alarming, yet many still suffer in silence. To any and all my friends out there, I want you to know that I am always here to lend an ear and support you through difficult times. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just need someone to talk to, please reach out. We are stronger together, and it’s crucial that we foster an environment where we can share our struggles without fear or stigma. Let’s work to raise awareness, promote mental health resources, and support one another. You are not alone. 💚 #VeterinaryAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #SupportEachOther
From River Road Animal Hospital on Facebook (https://lnkd.in/eFNBTFt4): September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Because veterinary professionals are unfortunately among some of the most likely to take their own lives, we are currently holding a raffle for a year of free nail trims, with all proceeds going to NOMV (Not One More Vet) — an organization dedicated to providing resources to those in our field struggling with their mental health and raising awareness for this cause. ❤️ We’re sad to say that most veterinarians we know — ours included — have had a classmate die by suicide. Veterinarians and their support staff, are people, too. This field is hard, but we love your pets and love what we do! 💕 We ask you consider entering in our raffle! Or, if you aren’t interested in the prize, you can donate directly at www.NOMV.org. 🐾

Understanding Donor Fatigue in Animal Shelters and Rescues: The Impact of Constant Donation Requests. This a topic never discussed and with shelters beyond their capacity, the issue is real in saving the lives of vulnerable animals. However, the constant stream of heart-wrenching photos and stories, coupled with urgent pleas for donations to provide critical veterinary care, can lead to a phenomenon known as donor fatigue. This exhaustion stems from being inundated with requests for financial support, often accompanied by distressing images of animals in need. Animal shelters and rescues are faced with the challenge of saving lives with the need to secure funding for their operations. While these organizations rely on the compassion and generosity of donors to continue their lifesaving work, the relentless nature of fundraising appeals can take a toll on supporters. Constant exposure to emotional appeals and urgent calls for donations can desensitize donors and lead to feelings of helplessness or guilt. The pressure to donate in response to heartbreaking stories of dogs in crisis can create “donor burnout”. When individuals feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of donation requests and the emotional weight of these appeals, they may become less inclined to contribute or disengage from supporting animal welfare causes altogether. Remember, they are all pleading for funds from the same resource. it's clear shelters need to be more creative with fundraising by developing relationships at a local level to secure a dependable donation that alleviates stress for the rescue. #pets #rescuesandshelters #petadvocacy #buildingrelationships

Help us stop the importation of monkeys from Cambodia to Canada to be harmed and abused in research laboratories 🛑 Animal Alliance of Canada is working with international advocacy partners to bring an end to this shameful trade. Those monkeys need our help. Those monkeys need you! 🐒 Give Today ❤️ https://lnkd.in/gQxUBxEh Read more through our colleagues at the Animal Protection Party of Canada: https://lnkd.in/gEzMuvcP Please, stand with us – stand with the monkeys of Cambodia - as we work with an international coalition to stop all shipments of monkeys from Cambodia to Canada. We continue to work toward the complete elimination of all animals being used in research and testing. Until that day, we engage in actions like this to protect those we can, and reduce the numbers of animals made to suffer so cruelly. What we know for sure is that, whether wild caught or captive-bred, no animal should be made to endure the horrors of being used in research.

🚨Double your impact for animals in Ukraine As the war in Ukraine continues, countless pets have been left abandoned, lost, or in danger. Many are trapped in conflict zones, facing starvation, injury, and illness. Veterinarians Without Borders/Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (VWB/VSF) North America is on the ground, providing life-saving veterinary care, food, and shelter to these vulnerable animals. One such animal is Zhulia, a dog rescued from the streets of Donetsk amidst heavy shelling. Her story is one of survival and hope—after receiving emergency care, she is now thriving in a safe home where she can recover from PTSD. But thousands of animals still need our help. 📢 This holiday season, your donation will be matched, having double the impact for animals like Zhulia. Here’s how your contribution can make a difference: ➡️ $28 can feed 10 pets for a month ➡️ $105 could help evacuate 4 animals to safety ➡️ $500 can support the rescue of 400 animals from conflict zones By giving today, you can save twice as many lives and provide the care these animals desperately need. 👉 vwb.org/holidays Let’s come together to support animals impacted by war and give them the second chance they deserve. #VeterinaryCare #AnimalRescue #Ukraine #HolidayMatch #DoubleImpact #CorporateSocialResponsibility #NonProfit

📚 Our BACK TO BASICS SERIES: Rescues & TNR groups 💪 As we begin to wrap up our "back to basics" month, we thought we'd spend some time discussing rescues and TNR (trap/neuter/return) groups, specifically those like us and many that follow our page. Learning how these groups are organized helps the public understand how to work with them and how to support them. (This discussion does not apply to professionals in clinic/shelter settings.) 🤔 What is the anatomy of a typical rescue or TNR group? ➡ They're comprised of compassionate, ordinary citizens who see animals in need and are compelled to help. ➡ Most members do not have animal husbandry or veterinary experience. They've learned by doing. ➡ They come from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. ➡ Members are predominantly female. ➡ They're VOLUNTEERS and work in rescue/TNR in their spare time. They may have an unrelated job and definitely have other commitments . Please be mindful of this the next time you ask for their help and do not expect them to drop everything to help you at a moment's notice. ➡ The group could be comprised of a handful of people or hundreds. Typically, they're very small. ➡ They work out of their homes and their cars. "Foster-based" means that the animals are kept in the volunteer's home; there is no shelter or kennel. When you hear that a group is "full" and can't take on more cats, it means there's no more room at anyone's house until a foster leaves or a cat gets adopted. ➡Their funding for ALL EXPENSES comes out of their own pockets or from fundraising efforts. Most are not supported by the government and many are too small to be considered for grants. Finding money and/or in-kind donations to care for the cats is an ongoing and sometimes frustrating endeavor. Help them when you can! ➡ The group may or may not have 501(c)(3) non-profit status. ➡ While they may work in cooperation with SPCAs and Humane organizations, they are not affiliated with them and are not supported by them financially. (Can't tell you how many times people thought we were the SPCA, despite having received our branded marketing materials and business cards!) Rescue and TNR groups work tirelessly to better animals' lives. Please support them! 🙌 Original content provided by Stray Cat Project. #RescueGroups #TNR #SupportVolunteers #AnimalWelfare 🐱❤️

We are beyond excited to present to you our latest report, which we hope will be of help from many groups and animal advocates: Animal welfare in the United States: Opportunities for impact. From the Summary: "In this report, we give an overview of animal production in the United States. We explore which industries are responsible for the largest amount of animal exploitation in the United States. We touch on all major farmed and wild-caught sectors in the country, before taking a deeper look at egg production and chicken meat production. Looking at how animal production is clustered by state and county, we point out where there are opportunities for animal advocacy organisations to make the biggest impact on the lives of animals. We also provide an overview of the economic forces that determine how animals are farmed and killed, which can help us to understand whether any given campaign will deliver the impact that we intend." ----- We want to help you! Are you an animal advocacy organisation seeking to conduct a high-impact campaign? We would love to work with you—like the insights in this report, we can provide detailed, specific analysis for the campaigns that your organisation is interested in. This is an initial scoping report, and we have only scratched the surface. We can inform the choice of campaign to empower your organisation to do the most good for animals. ----- https://lnkd.in/dguridNe #animalwelfare #animaladvocacy #farmanimals #animalscience #effectivealtruism #farmanimalwelfare #EAGLondon #poultry #eggs
