🎉 Celebrating 130 Years of AHK debelux - Deutsch-Belgisch-Luxemburgische Handelskammer For 130 years, AHK debelux has successfully contributed to strengthening economic relations between Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg. During this special anniversary celebration, our colleague Florian Schumacher participated in an engaging panel discussion on “Energy Corridors through Belgium.” He shared insights from the rail perspective, underlining two crucial arguments: 1️⃣ New Energy Products, such as hydrogen, ammonia, e-fuels and LNG, but also CO2, can already be transported sustainably and safely by rail today. 2️⃣ VTG is currently the only asset and rail solution provider in Europe to operate a mobile CO2 fleet and also owns the largest ammonia and methanol fleet in Europe. 3️⃣ Rails make it possible to flexibly connect locations in the hinterland to various terminals and hubs as many companies are not connected to pipeline networks—and don’t need to be. We are delighted to have been part of this inspiring event. It underlines the importance of our shared mission to strengthen international trade and trust-based partnerships to promote future growth. Many thanks to AHK debelux for this successful evening full of interesting talks, discussions and networking. #AHKdebelux #SustainableTransport #PanelDiscussion

📝 "An exciting day for us and our partners, as we are approaching the next step in our collaboration," says Gert-Jan Nieuwenhuizen, Managing Director of the H2A Association, at the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding and one Joint Study Agreement in the presence of Rob Jetten, Minister for Climate and Energy Policy. ⛓ From Spain to the Netherlands, from #Bilbao to #Amsterdam, every link involved in the supply chain is represented to make the Hydrogen Corridor a reality: Repsol, Petronor, S.A., KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and Port of Amsterdam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a corridor for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs). This agreement focuses on exploring the logistics and feasibility of producing and transporting SAFs from Bilbao to Amsterdam. EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, Petronor, S.A., GasLog Ltd., and the Port of Amsterdam have signed a Joint Study Agreement on the export of liquefied #hydrogen from the port of Bilbao to Amsterdam. This study will detail the technical and economic aspects necessary to support the hydrogen supply chain. Evos and CEPSA have also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the potential for hydrogen corridors from southern Spain, specifically from the port city of Algeciras, to the Netherlands. This collaboration will particularly assess the use of Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC) to facilitate hydrogen transport to Amsterdam, marking a significant step in creating a robust hydrogen supply chain across Europe. We are thankful for these steps towards establishing Amsterdam as a Hydrogen Hub for Europe, enhancing our energy security and sustainability. #HydrogenCorridor #SustainableEnergy #GreenHydrogen #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #Innovation

🇩🇪As part of the public consultation for the second H2Global tender organised by the BMWK, the Belgian Hydrogen Council has written a letter 📧 to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) and the H2Global Foundation/HINT.CO GmbH requesting to restate the Belgian ports as Point of First Delivery for its tendered goods. The first H2Global pilot auction was concluded on the renewable #ammonia tender and allowed the Belgian ports to be a Point of First Delivery. Out of the 5️⃣ bids considered for renewable ammonia imports, 1️⃣ project proposed delivery to the port of Antwerp. As such, Belgium ports already showcased their importance as European #import #hub and provide landing flexibility for hydrogen and its derivatives, not only for the Netherlands and Germany but also for the rest of Europe 🇪🇺 We feel they should be able to continue their role as landing point in the future H2Global tenders! 🚢 Port of Antwerp-Bruges North Sea Port Port Oostende

Today, on behalf of North Sea Port I signed the Oslo Declaration on low carbon value chains during the Belgian Economic Mission to Norway, together with large industrial stakeholders like ArcelorMittal Belgium, ENGIE, Equinor, Fluxys, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies and others. The declaration highlights the role of Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage #CCUS in reducing Belgium's CO2 emissions and puts forward 5 key policy actions to ensure CCUS projects, like Ghent Carbon Hub, and low carbon hydrogen projects, like #H2BE, will be realized. Together with energy efficiency, electrification, circularity and hydrogen, Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage will play a key role in decarbonizing our industries and ports. As an industrial hub with €12,7 billion euro of added value and more than 106.000 jobs, our cross-border port accounts for around 22 million of tons of CO2 emissions from sectors such as steel and chemicals that should to be decarbonized in a competitive way. The Oslo Declaration expresses a sense of urgency. Now that federal and regional elections in Belgium are over, we call on policymakers to translate these key policy actions into future coalition agreements and financial frameworks for next 5 years legislature. We’re convinced cooperation between industries, ports and policymakers is the way forward, #together we can strengthen each other. #OsloDeclaration #GhentCarbonHub #energy #electrification #TogetherSmarter Port of Antwerp-Bruges Astrid Vliebergh

News that the EU is to invest a record €7 billion in sustainable, safe and smart transport infrastructure, including shore power is welcome at our terminals in Sweden, Spain, Denmark and Croatia. The investments, hand in hand with our own in electrified equipment and renewable energy will: 💚 Reduce our own scope 3 emissions 🎯 Offer our customers a better product 🚢 Have direct influence on shipping lines’ scope 1 emissions ‘It is obvious that reaching Net Zero is not something we can do on our own as a terminal operator. All stakeholders in and around the ports have to contribute in the different steps of the energy supply chain,” says Peter Corfitsen, CEO, Rijeka Gateway, Croatia. “Therefore, support for the upgrade of the port in Rijeka is a big step ahead to deliver a lower emissions product for our customers, provide better air quality in and around the port and serve as a competitive port for Croatia,” he explains.
