So why support kinship care week? The majority of children outside of parental care are being cared for in Kinship care. Kinship care can help keep families together, providing support to parents when they are unable to care for their children. kinship care is often the preferred form of care for both children and caregivers. Despite this it is often poorly supported. Kinship care families have a variety of support needs from financial to emotional. THE REALITY ON THE GROUND! The laughter of a child is truly a reflection of happiness, a moment where pain and struggles fade away. But, sadly, this isn't the reality for many children in South Africa. The recent Child Safeguarding Week highlighted the dire need for protection and care, yet the country still grapples with understanding the gravity of this mission. The devastating news of over 12 children dying from food poisoning in just one week is a stark reminder of the work that needs to be done. South Africa faces alarming statistics on violence and neglect against children. Approximately three out of four children between the ages of 2 and 4 experience violent discipline, and one in three children suffer sexual abuse before turning 18. The child homicide rate is twice as high as the global estimate, with almost half of these cases involving prior abuse. The current child protection system focuses on statutory services and crisis intervention, but experts emphasize the need for preventive measures and early intervention. The lack of resources, inadequate funding, and poor coordination between government entities and non-profit organizations exacerbate the challenges. Every child's life matters. Every child deserves protection. The recent #floods in Bangladesh have caused immense suffering, especially for children who are the most vulnerable. Many families are now living in difficult conditions, depending on relief efforts to survive. With children at severe #risk of disease, exploitation, and neglect, it's crucial that we act quickly to ensure their safety and well-being. Manusher Jonno Foundation's project, "Safeguarding Children by Engaging Youth (SAFE)," is focused on raising awareness about child protection during this challenging time. And parents end up separated from their children. But it's not just in Ukraine that this is a problem. Around the world, children growing up in orphanages are experiencing violence, abuse and neglect. The traumas they face can last a lifetime. 287 Kidnapped Nigerian Schoolchildren Freed, But Questions Remain Nigerians express relief as nearly 300 students, abducted from their school in Kuriga over two weeks ago, are finally released. However, Governor Uba Sani remains tight-lipped on the details of their liberation. President Bola Tinubu, who previously vowed a "no-ransom" rescue, receives praise from Sani for "ensuring the safe return" of the children. While the release of the nearly 300 kidnapped Nigerian schoolchildren is a relief, serious questions remain. How can the government ensure this doesn't happen again? These abductions have become far too common. What concrete steps will be taken to improve school security and prevent future kidnappings? What resources will be provided to help these traumatized children and their families heal? The experience of captivity can have lasting psychological effects. Is there a plan to offer them counseling and support? Nigerians deserve to feel safe. We need to hold our leaders accountable for protecting children and preventing these tragedies.
