I assume there's quite a bit of discussion going on today in charities about whether to join or at least create a holding account on Bluesky. As I did on Twitter I'm creating and building starter packs of lists of useful resources for fundraisers on Bluesky. Hi all, Great article out on the Third Sector that raises a highly interesting debate whether or not charities should act more like a big business in today's market. The author of the article, Ian MacQuillin, director of the fundraising think tank Rogare, establishes his debate through Tomorrow's Donor Today report, which argues that charities need to differentiate themselves from companies to stay relevant and needed, as big businesses run their own social campaigns and because of this they are more like charities, but with deeper pockets to spend on solving society's socio-economic problems. However, MacQuillin wittingly reminds us that the problem with this is that in many cases, it is the commercial market that created these societal problems to begin with, and it is not their primary focus to solve them compared to a charity! This is definitely a debate worth reading if you are interested in the third sector and its future.
