India's introduction of the Open Road Tolling (ORT) system on the Atal Setu bridge, part of the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL), signifies a remarkable leap in infrastructure advancement. Since its inauguration on January 12th, the 22-kilometer bridge has seamlessly accommodated around 30,000 vehicles daily, boasting an innovative tolling mechanism akin to systems in advanced nations like Singapore. Despite its success, toll evasion, albeit at a relatively low 3.5%, poses a concern. To address this, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to activate toll boom barriers on the MTHL, ensuring toll payments before exit. This hiccup notwithstanding, the implementation of ORT on the Atal Setu bridge is commendable. It exemplifies India's commitment to modernizing infrastructure and streamlining traffic management. As we envision a future where ORT systems blanket India's road network, let's celebrate the progress made and remain optimistic about the journey ahead. #atalsetu #tolling #futureoftransport #ORTIndia
The Open Road Tolling (ORT) system contributes to efficient traffic management by allowing vehicles to pass through toll plazas at highway speeds without stopping. This reduces congestion, improves traffic flow, and minimizes toll evasion, making roadways safer and more efficient. ORT reduces toll evasion by employing advanced technologies like electronic toll collection and license plate recognition systems. These systems automatically charge tolls, making it difficult for drivers to evade payment, thereby ensuring compliance and increasing revenue collection for infrastructure development. Open Road Tolling (ORT) enhances road safety by reducing congestion and eliminating the need for vehicles to stop or slow down at toll booths, thereby decreasing the likelihood of accidents. The system's use of electronic toll collection and vehicle identification technologies ensures smoother traffic flow and safer driving conditions. Open Road Tolling (ORT) promotes environmental sustainability by reducing vehicle idling and emissions, enabling smoother traffic flow, ORT decreases fuel consumption and air pollution. I traveled on this bridge 2 return trips so far and found boom barriers at the toll booths each time ....have not see any sign or operation of Open road tolling ... last trip was on 15th April 24 .... they were using Fastag scanners though and scanners were working fine ....
Toll fee is really painful for a normal public
Great initiative indeed! Data driven technology & technology driven data both are helping immensely. I feel toll evasion on the manned sites may be more than this, need to check data though. 💐💐
It is important to accurately record the type of vehicle

Could imagine eating a chocolate eclair in there. Messy times
