#ProjectMonday | This winter, H2O4ALL is returning to the Dominican Republic to continue our widespread filter distribution project. A volunteer team from the University of Waterloo, Ontario will help us bring safe water to families in need by making and distributing water filters. H2O4ALL's ceramic water filters, co-developed by H2O4ALL Wine to Water, are the backbone of our work in the Dominican Republic. The filters are made in a factory in the Dominican Republic that employs members of the local community. Simple and sustainable technology in each filter removes 99.9% of all pathogens from water, providing a whole family with safe water for up to 7 years. Even in communities without access to a protected water source, families with filters can rest assured that their water is clean and safe to drink. Since our partnership with Wine to Water began in 2012, we've been able to provide safe water to tens of thousands of families in the Dominican Republic. We're looking forward to spreading this project's impact even further in 2025! #safewater #safewaterforall #water #waterislife #donate #school #community

Do we like Mondays? No. Does good news make a Monday better? Yes. Two weeks ago, the Cleanup Peterborough team and 18 volunteers went along the Little Lake Shoreline to clean out trash and cigarette butts. They filled five full trash bags, a bag of clean recycling (water bottles, pop cans) and nearly 5200 cigarette butts. Yikes. All that had the potential of ending up in the lake to degrade the quality of our water, and everyone downstream. That's great work! Sure, you may skeptically say that it's going to be the same mess in another two weeks. Fair. There are people who never learn how to clean up after themselves. But with this data, the City and groups who use the land can plan ahead with extra trash receptacles and maybe some of those snazzy tamper-proof cigarette butt tower things. Yes, you can still see Dude or Dudette throwing their butts on the ground while standing right beside it. But more people may be inclined to properly dispose of their trash. Volunteering helps bring fresh new eyes to any situation. They show that there is a definite need for focus on specific issues. It's why we do what we do: bring volunteers to the agencies who need them. Because we mean it when we say #VolunteersArePriceless. The hive of earth givers needs to grow. At Earth Gives we are working to do just that with the first US-wide giving day focused on the environment, climate and climate justice. Eco philanthropy of just 2% simply is not enough to scale our impact work. Together, we can invite thousands of worker bees to pollinate our organizations with donations and volunteer commitments, and get busy learning and leading change in their own hives. Let's welcome them into the community. Register to bee in solidarity with others, to boost your volunteer crop, and to sweeten your pot. Did you know one teaspoon of winter salt pollutes five gallons of water forever? And when salt concentrations reach a critical level, aquatic life in our streams, lakes, and rivers struggle. That’s why Stroud Water Research Center is encouraging everyone to Cut the Salt this winter season by testing local waterways with our Freshwater Test Kit and utilizing alternative methods for safely removing snow and ice. HomeClub looks at hundreds of articles every day. We choose the best ones to share with our readers. This gives you a quick look at what's happening in the home improvement industry. The article below is one we picked. The power of community collaboration in addressing food insecurity is truly remarkable. As highlighted in a recent LinkedIn post by Infinity Exteriors Wisconsin, Infinity New Berlin Team's efforts at the Hunger Task Force Farm in Franklin resulted in an impressive harvest of approximately 3,720 lbs of corn. This initiative exemplifies the significant impact that corporate volunteerism can have on local communities, particularly in supporting vulnerable populations such as low-income children, seniors, and families. By working together, businesses, farmers, donors, and volunteers are creating a sustainable solution to provide fresh, healthy produce to those in need, demonstrating that collective action can make a substantial difference in combating hunger and promoting food security. Happy World Environment Day! Every five seconds, the equivalent of one football pitch of soil is eroded. Yet, it takes 1,000 years to generate 3 centimeters of topsoil. Today, we unite globally to celebrate and protect our planet. This year's theme, "Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought resilience," reminds us of the urgent need of bringing back healthy land, keeping desert from developing, and managing water shortages. Trees, healthy soil, and clean water are imperative for a solid planet. Join us in making a pledge to protect and restore our Earth. Every action counts! Share your efforts with #WorldEnvironmentDay and inspire others to do the same. 🌎 🌏 🌍 At LUSH, Earth Day isn't just a date on the calendar; it's a reminder to renew our commitment to those protecting our planets’ precious lands, air and waters. Prompted by the eye-watering number of land defenders and water protectors murdered in recent years - 1910 defenders reported killed from 2012-2022, with many more unreported. In 2023 we launched the Lush Frontline Defenders Fund, and contributed $210,750 to 14 partner organisations working at the front lines of environmental defence. Focussed on areas of the world with the highest prevalence of violence against environmental defenders, we worked with trusted partners and sector leaders in distributing small grants from $10,000 to $25,000, which organisations held as emergency funds ready to be deployed quickly as the need arises. Frontline organisations know best how to respond, and this kind of funding should be done in trust, as it does not fit the usual philanthropy timelines and reporting requirements. Join us in honouring the tireless efforts of environmental defenders, read their struggles and stories of resilience. #EarthDay #LushCommunity #FrontlineDefenders #CharityPot
