W3G Marine are in Marseille this week for the FOWT Conference 🇫🇷 Our business development team T Brian Donaldson & Ewen MacLennan Donaldson will be attending 🚀 W3G Marine have been Owner's Representative and Owner's Engineer on the Kincardine Offshore Floating Windfarm since it's construction in 2018. Introducing one of our innovations for Offshore Floating Wind 🔥 ‘Game Changing' assembly methodology solution for floating wind? Assembly of next generation turbines will require lifting a nacelle of weight of 1,000t to a height of over 185m and at a reach of over 50m. To achieve this using conventional technology requires: - a high strength deepwater quayside with a large laydown area and huge onshore crane or - a next generation, expensive, ‘super’ jack up Our solution is low cost and solves all of the challenges to deploy next generation turbines onto floating structures at industrial scale. It contains very high levels of local content and best uses an existing port infrastructure. This means we don't have to move the very heavy load at a very high height. Instead move the components under a single point and build the turbine using a static-to-static lift. The last floating wind turbine of the pilot farm Provence Grand large has been installed off the coast of Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône in France. This is a major achievement for EDF Renouvelables and its partners. Indeed, Provence Grand Large is the first floating wind project to be built and installed in France! 👇 The EPCI contract was awarded to SBM Offshore for a floater concept co developed with IFP Energies nouvelles, but did you know that our partner IFP Energies nouvelles have extensively used DeepLines Wind™ during the engineering FEED to perform #coupled analysis of the FOWT, run all the DLC required for #certification purpose (by Bureau Veritas Group), and validate the #floater and #mooring design? Extreme and fatigue conditions of the system have been thoroughly assessed using state of the art solver. Assessing the Global Performance Analysis (GPA) and realizing an Integrated Load Assessment (ILA) of #offshorewind turbine and their foundations require coupled #finiteelementanalysis (FEA) simulations that account for the combined effects of aerodynamic loads on the blades, active blades pitch control, hydrodynamic loads on the floating platform, dynamic mooring loads, and the elasticity of elements! DeepLines Wind™ is a comprehensive software program designed specifically to perform ILA & GPA of floating and fixed-bottom wind turbines submitted to offshore environmental loadings using time domain simulations of all offshore wind turbine components. Should you want to receive our brochure, review our validation cases, try DeepLines Wind™, or understand the software capabilities, please reach out to us at deeplines@principia.fr

From Childhood Dreams to a Greener Future As a kid, wind turbines weren’t something I saw every day. But whenever we traveled north of Iran and passing by Manjil, there they were—towering white giants, some turning gracefully in the wind. Even though I didn’t fully understand them, those spinning blades sparked my imagination. Years later, I learned how they work and realized how small those turbines—designed by Vestas in 1995—are compared to today’s massive, cutting-edge ones. These elegant structures inspire dreams, teaching kids about clean energy in ways fossil fuel plants never could. I’m thrilled to announce my participation as representative of SEGULA Technologies beside our managing director in Poland, Jacek Cabała in Polish Offshore Wind Industry Chamber (PIMEW), #offshore wind energy event in #Gdynia, where we’ll explore the future of wind technology and its role in shaping a sustainable world. #WindEnergy #OffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFuture #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy #HydrogenMobility #engineering #engineeringservices #power #greenpower #powergeneration Jacek Cabała Paweł Borowiec Amroze Adjuward Damien Convert Anna Coudroy Olivier Desmarest

Baltic Sea LES-wake study The coming years, the Baltic sea will be the scene of many offshore wind farms being constructed. Already on the German side, the first wind farms are operational, while on the Polish side 30 to 70GW of capacity is suggested to be installed towards 2040. These wind farms will have a very large mutual impact and it is therefore crucial to know in an early stage what the impact is on the business case (AEP) and warranted wind turbine life-time (Site Conditions/Suitability). To visualize the impact of potential future effects of offshore wind farms on each other, Whiffle and Pondera have teamed up to perform a Large Eddy Simulation run for the Polish Baltic sea in a prospective 2040 1-day situation. All-in-all up to 32 GW of planned future projects are simulated: 2100+ NREL-15MW wind turbines were included within a domain of over 370 x 155 km and at a 120m resolution. So what are we looking at? Clearly visible in the model-output are the large effects that the wind farms have on the overall wind flow. No longer do wakes limit themselves to several kilometres behind the projects, but even in unstable weather conditions the amassed wake effects encompass the entire clusters and stretch for easily over many dozens of kilometers. It can also be observed that the wind speed decreases before it reaches the first wind turbines, this is also referred to as global blockage. The flow is diverted around the wind farm causing speed-up effects between the clusters. Another nice finding, is that island of Bornholm has a clear effect on the wind flow (you can see the thermal mixing leading to cloud formation over the warmer-than-the-sea island surface) which pertains for a very large distance. Also, the onshore thermal-cloud formation is nicely visualized as is the intuitive wind speed drop right at the coast-line. In case you want to learn more about how LES modelling can help your offshore wind farm project, specifically for AEP, wakes, Floating LiDAR measurements or site conditions, please meet us at the PSEW-conference in Swinoujscie from the 4-6th of June 2024. #LES, #Whiffle, #PSEW, #WRA, #Wakes,#FLS
