I had a life realization at the vet this weekend. While I was in the waiting room, three people arrived with rescued street cats. The clinic offers special rates to spay street cats, check them up, and ensure they are well. Afterward, they will be fostered and hopefully soon adopted. I rescued two cats because I love animals. Seeing those individuals helping out and dedicating their time to save cats made me reflect on my contribution to the world. Honestly, I have not been doing much lately. I could make excuses like a lack of time and not finding the right cause, but these are just excuses. 🐾 Giving Voice to the Voiceless: Street Dogs Deserve Better 🐾 Every street dog has a story—a story of survival, resilience, and unspoken love. Let me share one that touched my heart deeply. One rainy evening, I found a shivering puppy, barely breathing, under a parked car. Her ribs were visible, and her eyes were filled with fear and hope. I couldn’t leave her there. With care and love, she recovered, and today she’s a healthy, happy dog with a family that cherishes her. But what about the countless others who aren’t so lucky? This experience inspired me to take action and start PawPrintsofHope, a foundation dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming street dogs. Our mission is to provide these voiceless souls with a second chance at life and the love they deserve. "Why Dogs Live Shorter Lives" 🐾💔 I’ve spent a lot of time searching my soul and asking why dogs don’t live as long as we do. After all, they’re some of the purest souls on this earth. 🌎 And I believe it’s because they’re born already knowing the most important lesson we, as humans, need to learn: how to love selflessly. ❤️ Dogs live with an open heart from day one. They don’t need years to learn loyalty, forgiveness, or kindness—they just are these things. 🐶💞 They remind us of the best parts of ourselves and show us what it means to be truly present, to care without limits. Oh how I love an elegant, effective, FUN system 😻 My son and I started volunteering with the kitties at Our Companions Animal Rescue and Sanctuary (amazing facility!) and, as an organizational nerd, I am IN LOVE with their system. Here's why: 1) It creates a win for ALL the stakeholders - The cats each get the attention they need, the volunteers know exactly how they can contribute the most value each day, the staff know how much attention each kitty needs so they can fill in gaps, and future owners get a pet that is well-adjusted and loved. 2) Its SIMPLE! - After interacting with a kitty, you move a magnet to indicate what kind of attention that kitty got: play, cuddles, or just a sharing-space visit. Volunteers that come later in the day can see who needs attention and what kind of attention they could most benefit from. 3) It solves the problem by putting connection and relationships at the forefront - Yes, litter needs to be scooped and floors need to be swept, but kitties (and humans!) thrive when their emotional needs are met. They need connection and love on THEIR terms. Some kitties want more play time, some want more pets, and some kitties just like when you're in the room, no touching, please. I bet we can all think of humans that fit each of those categories too! Deep, loving, trusting relationships are built by respecting each others needs and that only happens when our needs are clearly communicated AND honored. 4) The expectations are clear - If you get scratched, it's mostly on you. Each cat is given a level and a clear explanation of their likes and dislikes. As long as you respect them, they will respect you. The staff has made it abundantly clear how you can create a win-win experience going into each kitty's room. Every part of the system is an "of course". Nothing is asking too much of the volunteers, the communication is respectful and clear, and the best interests of the cats, the volunteers, and the staff are all taken into account. That's how you build a good system 😽
