We love to see a project that focuses on exceptional lighting design- check out this feature in Marin Magazine! This masterful renovation of a Santa Barbara-style Spanish Colonial home in San Anselmo showcases the intersection between traditional architecture and contemporary design. A highlight is David Trubridge Ltd's Navicula and Kina pendants, which bring an organic beauty to the modern interior. One of the challenges in designing this space was the sheer size of the home- 7,300 square feet, with five bedrooms and five and a half baths, and ceiling heights that reach up to 20 feet in some rooms. "Since the cost of a total renovation for a house of this size would have been prohibitively expensive, Pike was tasked with pulling off a transformation without changing the flooring, windows and staircase, and without fully remodeling the kitchen." What better way to fill a ceiling void than with decorative lighting? We always appreciate a project that creatively addresses such challenges, especially when it involves standout pendants! Dive into the full transformation and gather inspiration for your next project. Brief 📄⤵️ “Make the most of the space I have.” That was the client’s main instruction to us.Her ultimate desire was to transform her 350 sq foot studio apartment into a contemporary and considered space that she could enjoy for years to come. The key objectives were to: - Reconfigure the interior architecture and layouts to create an improved flow - Maximise every available square foot to provide storage and accommodate furniture - Propose a multi-functional design for the main living space that would be ideal for both working and unwinding Here are some of the key design decisions we made to achieve this: - Due to the awkward and challenging nature of the space, opted for a fully bespoke kitchen with tall, reduced-depth cupboards in an off-white finish to make it feel lighter - Opted for a sliding glass door with a fixed panel between the central bedroom and the living room to provide privacy without needing to close the open plan living blinds - Designed a compact, foldable dining table that could be aesthetically pleasing when not in use. The artwork frame drops down and becomes the table legs for when the client has a guest over for dinner - Installed a panoramic horizontal mirror behind the sofa to bounce light around the room and gives a sense of depth and a place to add styling items, breaking up the joinery Here’s what our client had to say: “Really enjoyed working with Muchmore Design! Would hire them again and would recommend them to anybody who is redesigning their apartment.” What do you think of the finished apartment? ▶ The Perfect Fusion of Architecture and Interior Design at Decor Space ◀ At Decor Space, we believe that the essence of a truly remarkable home lies in the harmonious blend of architecture and interior design. Our latest project exemplifies this philosophy, bringing together innovative architectural elements and exquisite interior details to create a living space that is both beautiful and functional. Modern Open Floor Plan: One of the standout features of our latest project is the modern open floor plan. This design choice breaks down traditional barriers, creating a seamless flow between different living areas. By eliminating unnecessary walls, the space feels larger and more connected. This approach not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also promotes better interaction among family members and guests. The open floor plan allows for versatile furniture arrangements, making it easier to adapt the space for various activities, from hosting dinner parties to enjoying a quiet evening at home. Natural Light Maximization: Natural light plays a crucial role in our design philosophy. We’ve strategically incorporated large windows and glass doors to ensure that every room is bathed in natural light. This not only reduces the need for artificial lighting during the day but also creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The use of skylights in certain areas adds an extra dimension, allowing light to filter in from above and highlight architectural features and interior details. beautiful but also durable, ensuring that the home retains its charm for years to come. The selection of finishes is done with careful consideration to ensure that they complement each other and contribute to the overall cohesive look of the space. Functional Elegance: Functionality is a key aspect of our design process. We believe that a beautiful home should also be practical and comfortable. Our designs incorporate clever storage solutions, such as built-in shelving and hidden cabinets, to keep the space clutter-free and organized. Multi-functional furniture pieces, like extendable dining tables and convertible sofas, add to the versatility of the space, allowing it to adapt to the changing needs of its occupants. Every element is thoughtfully placed to enhance both the form and function of the home. Harmonious Color Palette: The color palette of a home sets the tone and mood of the space. In our latest project, we’ve carefully selected a harmonious color scheme that brings warmth and cohesion throughout the entire home. #InteriorDesign #Architecture #DecorSpace #HomeInspiration #DesignGoals

Types of balcony Balconies come in various types, each serving different aesthetic and functional purposes in architectural design. Here are some common types: 1- Cantilevered Balcony: This type projects out from the building without any visible support underneath. It is attached to the building at one end and appears to float, offering a sleek, modern look. Cantilevered balconies are often used in contemporary residential and commercial designs. 2- Hung Balcony: These balconies are supported by stainless steel or iron cables connected to the building's structure. Hung balconies provide a minimalist appearance and are ideal for buildings where a light, airy feel is desired. 3- Stacked Balcony: Also known as projecting balconies, these are supported by vertical columns or pillars that extend from the ground to the balcony floor. They are common in apartment complexes and multi-story buildings, offering robust support and a traditional look. 4- Juliet Balcony: This is a small, decorative balcony that does not protrude far from the building. It typically features a railing across a door or window opening and is named after the famous scene from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." Juliet balconies are more about aesthetics than functional outdoor space. 5-Mezzanine Balcony: Found within buildings, mezzanine balconies overlook the interior spaces below. They are often used in large, open-plan areas like lobbies, auditoriums, or industrial spaces, providing additional floor space and a vantage point. 6-False Balcony: These are purely decorative and do not provide any standing space. They are often used to enhance the façade of a building, giving it a more ornate appearance without the need for structural support. Each type of balcony adds unique architectural value and can be chosen based on the specific needs and style preferences of the building design.
