Rempods ( Reminisence Pods for Dementia patients) - update ♥️ We had a VERY successful Rempod-Recce this evening, and we're really pleased to report that all five frames are in excellent condition! Just a few bits missing sadly, but after 7 years, we're really pleased at how they are looking, so it's just a case of us replenishing the wee additional bits that help create the memories 🫶. We'll be back in touch over the next month or two to let you know when all five will be available to borrow. A perfect addition to our local Care Homes, Day Centres and Community Groups, to help with the wellbeing of our wonderful older loved ones with dementia. As one daughter said to us when we first rolled these out... "I got my mum back for five minutes"... A completely priceless comment and affect 🫶 We're also going to put together an inventory so that those using the Rempods can see what's included (and can ensure everything is returned for the next users). We'll also include additional things we would suggest, such as ice cream and sand for the 'Beach scene' to help stimulate further senses. These Rempods are one of our Foundation's proudest achievements. They were purchased using our fundraising sums from our 5th Walk with Scott in 2017, And we CANNOT wait to get them back out in circulation again across East Lothian ♥️ It's only fitting that we share the original video again, showing all five at our Launch in July 2017 🫶 x #walkwithscottfoundation #makingtheimpossiblepossible

Life Experience Informing Careers in Dementia Services and Supports: Panel Discussion | Jan 28, 2025 02:00 PM The overlap of professional and personal lives can be a challenge to navigate, but there are opportunities for each role to inform the other. It is not uncommon for professionals in the dementia field to have personal experiences as caregivers. This personal experience informs their work, providing opportunities to infuse their perspective in the programs and services they develop and deliver. The lessons learned from people who experience both roles are compelling and can help guide dementia work and caregiving practices. In this webinar, we will have a panel discussion about the intersection of careers in supporting people living with dementia and caregivers and the ways their personal experiences as dementia caregivers have informed this work. Direct questions to NADRC-Webinars@rti.org Please note: NADRC webinars are free and open to the public. Closed captioning is available during the webinar and included in all recordings. Speaker bios can be found at the bottom of this registration page. https://lnkd.in/eaYxhaqS

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT | THE CAREGIVER SUPPORT PROGRAM provides services for families caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. We empower families with an active support network, reminding them that they are never alone on this journey. By focusing on the power of the present, we help families make memories for tomorrow while enjoying the most of today. Caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia can be an emotional and challenging journey. This challenge can often take a significant toll on caregivers, sometimes more profoundly than on the individuals living with the condition. As the disease progresses, it gradually erases the cherished memories and abilities of the loved one. This leaves caregivers to witness the heart-wrenching transformation of someone they hold dear. Our Caregiver Support Program provides unique personalized support and education to families and professional caregivers. Personalized support is so vital because every journey with dementia is different. We educate caregivers on this degenerative brain disease to give a deeper understanding of what is happening and how to adapt their caregiving skills to meet their loved one's needs at each stage. #CaregiverSupport #MHA www.mhamidsouth.org

Individuals with Dementia: When Help is Not Help Caregivers of dementia patients should attempt to strike a balance between supporting and enabling. Helping too much can undermine independence, and end up causing more harm as the patient will forget how to do those activities quickly if they stop doing them. What to do? - Supervise, don't take over. - Allow attempts at tasks. - Offer guidance, not instructions. - Encourage decision-making. - Be patient- they may do something in 3 minutes which you may be able to do in 15 seconds. Examples: - Let them dress themselves. - Let them assemble their plate. - Let them pour their tea. - Let them take care of their hygienic needs. Eventually, the time will likely come when they need full assistance and support. But by "helping" them before it's absolutely necessary, we risk accelerating their decline. Do all you can for your dementia patients, but do it the right way.

Did you know dementia affects about 1 million people in the UK? The Alzheimer’s Society has unveiled a powerful new installation, ‘Behind Closed Doors’. It invites people to see, hear, and share real-life experiences of dementia. Anna Richardson, a TV presenter, shared: "Coping with my dad’s dementia is the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. We all deserve a better future, we all need hope." Caring for someone with dementia often leaves families overwhelmed, unsupported, and isolated. This is why the charity is collecting stories to hold decision makers accountable and to push UK's biggest killer to the forefront of health priorities. 🔴 Problem: Lack of support for dementia carers. 🟠 Aggravation: Overwhelmed families. 🟢 Solution: Increased awareness and support. At least a third of people with dementia lack a diagnosis. They can’t access the vital care they need. How has dementia affected you or someone you know? Let's spread awareness. Share your experience! Contact me to discuss how we can enhance support for dementia care. #DementiaCare #AlzheimersAwareness #SupportOurCarers

Bringing clarity to the uncertainty of a dementia diagnosis. If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that a dementia diagnosis creates a host of uncertainty. That's why Lutheran Home has been working for years to create the most comprehensive memory support continuum in Arlington Heights. Not all dementia is the same. People 65 and older survive an average of four to eight years after a diagnosis of Alzheimer's, yet some live as long as 20 years with Alzheimer's. This reflects the slow, uncertain progression of the disease, which is why we’ve developed a wide spectrum of support, starting with the Cherished Place Adult Day Club which offers day services for people with dementia or just needing support. Our bus will also pick up members at their homes in our service area, providing a much-needed respite for caregivers and a break (and fun) for the members. At Lutheran Home, we offer a spectrum of peer-based services from MyTapestry Garden that serves people with mild cognitive conditions through end-of-life skilled nursing care. Residents live in neighborhoods with others who have similar cognitive abilities with specialized services to support individualized needs. The setting is perfect for couples, allowing one person to live in upscale assisted living, while their loved one receives care under the same roof. As a nonprofit organization, we put the profits back into the service which is why the extraordinary team at Lutheran Home is making a positive impact, living our values and supporting the city of Arlington Heights with the utmost care and respect.
