Carbon ThreeSixty Ltd continues to develop advanced composites processing capabilities, with the 6-axis robot cell now fully operational as a 6+2 axis filament winder.  This was in-house designed and engineered to meet the needs of our growing business across a variety of sectors and product types. The robotic winding cell allows parts up to 0.8m diameter by 3.5m long to be processed and can lay 4 tows of material, all individually servo tension controlled.  This allows us to process dry fibre for subsequent infusion / RTM as well as wet winding or towpregs for finished composite parts. Filament winding is a key process to support high performance electric machines in the aerospace and automotive industry, pressure vessels for transport and space applications, but is also more than capable of making non-cylindrical complex shaped components. We’ve recently completed the build of another fully automated assembly cell for our favourite customer! Components are delivered into the cell on bespoke carts by MiR - Mobile Industrial Robots - Americas autonomous mobile robots and are fitted and assembled to the engine block by a FANUC Europe six axis robot equipped with bespoke end of arm tooling that has iRVision and Atlas Copco spindles. The overall sequencing and functional safety of the cell is achieved using a Siemens S7-1500 Failsafe PLC in conjunction with a Comfort Panel Pro HMI. The new cell will be fully integrated into an existing assembly line using Siemens RFID to determine the variant type to be assembled along with communication to the plant M.E.S. for full traceability of the assembly process.
