New technologies from companies like Sense (Cambridge, MA), Span, Schnieder Electric, Lumin, NeoCharge, SimpleSwitch, and SplitVolt help homeowners electrify their homes by intelligently managing the electric appliances drawing power from an undersized electric panel (old 100 Amps version). Read about how these technologies manage EV charging, heat pumps, induction stoves, and more to keep circuit breakers from tripping in older homes. [Source: The Washington Post. Stepwise's solution bridges a complicated yet crucial part of EV ownership: the increased amount of electricity that charging demands from your home electrical system. Today’s electric panels don’t have the built-in intelligence or real-time insights needed to deliver their full electrical capacity: an average U.S. home uses just 4% of its panel’s ampacity rating. ⚡ Stepwise's solution optimizes electrical panels to tap into their full capacity. Its product, EV Tap, balances a home’s energy demand by increasing power sent to an EV charger when other electrical demands are low and vice versa. This modulation enables an EV charger—which could use about 50 amps—to run in a house with a 100-amp electrical panel, with enough ampacity left over for other electricity needs. By automatically shifting and deferring loads, EV Tap allows homeowners to sidestep the costly electrical panel upgrades (which can run up to $10,000) that are typically necessary for home electrification. Electrify your home...well let's not blow a fuse. Getting to a better and cleaner energy future means electrifying things. From your stove to your water heater, etc. This is all well and good and I agree with a whole lot of it. But there are always trade offs and things that we have not considered. I like to think of it as 'displacement' while others look at it from the view of 'consequences'. In this case, if you were to electrify just about everything in your home and add an EV, well you're probably going to have to monitor and manage things more closely as you'll overwhelm the circuit breaker. And this article in The Washington Post explains it a lot better than I do. #electrifyeverything #electricalwork https://wapo.st/48Qd5Cm

Koben has introduced an innovative solution to help millions of US homes upgrade their undersized electrical panels. With the shift to electric heating, appliances, and EV chargers, upgrading electrical panels can be costly and time-consuming. But Koben's GENIUS AI smart panel technology can help avoid these issues by automatically adjusting power flows to maximize a home's existing electricity capacity. Rewiring America has proposed federal legislation to incentivize electrical panel upgrades and electric appliances. Without these incentives, homeowners may delay switching to electric when appliances break down and need replacement. The latest version of the National Electrical Code allows for "automatic load management systems" for EV chargers and upcoming versions of the code will allow for automated management of multiple types of electric appliances, including smart electrical panels. Learn more about this innovative solution from Koben in the Rewiring America news. #smartpanels #electricalupgrades #cleanenergy #sustainability #rewiringamerica Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/ebW9MVsG
