Gratitude Moment: The Wisdom of "Both Sides, Now" In Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides, Now," the refrain "I really don't know" echoes as a testament to life's ever-unfolding mystery. Among the tapestry of its lyrics, the acknowledgement of life’s “illusions” adds a layer of poignant sadness, yet also opens a door to a deeper understanding and acceptance. Mitchell sings of life's illusions – in clouds, love, and dreams – not to despair, but to highlight the journey from innocence to the wisdom of seeing beyond the surface. This acceptance of not truly knowing everything, the letting go of once-cherished illusions, brings both a tinge of sadness and a hopeful liberation. It's a recognition that, in the space between certainty and doubt, there’s room for growth, for changing perspectives, and for finding peace in the beauty of life's complexities. This song, with its gentle melding of joy, sadness, and the acknowledgment of life's illusions, reminds us of the importance of embracing the unknown with an open heart. It encourages us to face the world with a sense of hope, even as we acknowledge the inevitable sadness that comes with letting go of our simpler understandings. I'm grateful for the nuanced beauty of "Both Sides, Now," for Joni Mitchell’s courage in exploring the depths of human experience, and for the reminder that in the midst of life's illusions, there's a profound opportunity to see, to learn, and to love more deeply. Here’s to the wisdom found in embracing the complexity of life, with all its light and shadow. #gratitude #

My name is Michael (Hi Michael) and I am a recovering consultant. Earlier this week, Noel and Liam Gallagher announced their decision to reconcile and reunite Oasis, a band that has not performed together in over 15 years. For those unfamiliar, the Gallagher brothers are renowned for their tumultuous relationship. In 1996, I was eagerly anticipating Oasis’s performance on MTV Unplugged, a show that solidified an artist’s place in rock history. However, Liam withdrew at the last minute, citing a sore throat. Noel stepped in, not only playing guitar but also covering the vocals. Meanwhile, Liam watched from the balcony, nursing his sore throat with alcohol and cigarettes, and heckling the band. There are valuable lessons we can learn from the Gallagher brothers. Noel is an exceptional songwriter and guitarist, while Liam is a remarkable singer. Their success hinges on their complementary skill sets. I have never understood leaders who build teams of “yes” people. It is crucial to assemble a team that complements each other and challenges you with diverse perspectives. When team members are afraid to speak up and have honest conversations with their supervisors, they eventually become frustrated and are likely to leave the organization. The second lesson is to learn to forgive and not hold grudges. This is an area where I can certainly improve. Over the years, I have held onto feelings of being wronged for far too long, which is not a healthy way to live. It has also made me skeptical of others. I should trust that people will do what they say. Consider the great music we have missed out on because the Gallagher brothers could not reconcile their differences. Whenever something is bothering you, speak up and work it out; do not let it fester. As a leader, if someone comes to you with an issue, listen and collaborate on finding a resolution. I am quite excited about the potential reunion. It appears they are planning around nine or ten shows next year. While I won’t be traveling to the United Kingdom to see them perform, if I were to attend, I would aim to secure tickets for their first show—just in case they don’t make it beyond that one. #civilengineering #consulting #recoveringconsultant #2024goals #leadership #growing #learning #mentorship #empathy #leadershipfirst #oasis https://lnkd.in/eST_RZng

life lessons by festival 🥮and occasional celebration 🥳 🎉 As we celebrate Dussehra, let’s take a moment to reflect on its deeper meanings, beyond the festivities. The #Challenge Picture this: you are in Lord Rama’s position, exiled, faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, and tasked with rescuing a loved one from the formidable Ravana. Instead of giving in to despair, Rama exemplifies resilience. His unwavering determination teaches us a crucial lesson—when confronted with adversity, we must persist. Just as Rama faced his trials, we too can overcome our challenges with strength and resolve. The #Team #Effort Rama was not alone in his quest. With him were loyal allies like his brother Lakshmana and the devoted Hanuman. Their teamwork was essential to victory. In our professional lives, collaboration is key. Success flourishes when we unite our diverse strengths and work toward common goals. Let’s remember that we achieve more together than we ever could alone. The #Battle #Within Now, let’s consider Ravana, a powerful king whose downfall came from his unchecked ego and ambition. The burning of Ravana's effigy during #Dussehra symbolizes more than just good triumphing over evil; it urges us to eliminate our inner negativity—our pride, procrastination, and self-doubt. This festival invites us to introspect and identify what holds us back from becoming our best selves. The #Victory Dussehra celebrates not just a historical event but the everyday victories we strive for: overcoming obstacles, embracing teamwork, and pursuing self-improvement. This year, I’m not only honoring the legacy of #Lord #Rama but also reflecting on my personal battles, the support I #cherish, and the negative habits I wish to shed. Let’s use this festival as a time for reflection and renewal. Here’s to emerging stronger and more united! May the light of #goodness always illuminate our path forward. Happy Dusshera 🙏 💐 #occasion #storytelling #Dussehra #Inspiration #Resilience #Teamwork #Selfimprovement #Reflection #Innerstrength #Celebrate #success #victory #linkdincommunity

I love seeing people push the limits of what we think is possible. It is one of the reasons I am a big fan of America's Got Talent. Almost every episode leaves me saying, "I can't believe it!" Plus, the show brings me joy, and let's be honest, we could all use a bit more of that in our lives. Recently, I was catching up on past episodes and came across this Brazilian dancer named Samuka. At the age of 13, he lost one of his legs to cancer. When the music started, Samuka began dancing with his two walking sticks. His infectious smile drew me into his performance, and when he threw away his walking sticks and started breakdancing with just one leg, I stood up and cheered, giving him a standing ovation in my living room! Samuka serves as a great reminder of how we must push beyond the limitations we set for ourselves. I often work with people with big, beautiful dreams, but self-imposed constraints stop them from pursuing them. For example: I am too old/young. I don't have enough time/experience/education/money to do that. I don't have the right connections to make it happen. It's risky, and I might fail. I started in the academic world at 23, and I always felt “too young” to pursue the work I really wanted to do. Recently (25 years later- you can do the math), I feel “too old”, and I missed opportunties. After I watched Samuka, I realized that the only time I really have is now. Today. So let’s do it! Take two minutes today to watch this video, and then ask, what constraints have I created in my head that limit me? How might I take one small step today to push beyond that constraint to move closer to my dream? Remember, small and steady steps often lead to the most significant breakthroughs. If Samuka can defy the odds and dance through adversity, what's stopping you from pursuing your passion? Whether it's starting a new project, making a bold career move, or simply believing in your own potential, let this story be your motivation to act. What are the self-imposed constraints that limit you? And what's your next move? #creativity #passion https://lnkd.in/d6utcDFj
