Wardle partner, Meaghan Dwyer is presenting at TEFMA24 in Auckland today with Rowan Maclean from the University of Melbourne. 'Partnerships & Precincts' will focus on the opportunities the built environment can create for collaboration to expand research and learning ecosystems. Reviewing two Wardle life science projects, the Victorian Heart Hospital and Australian Institute for Infectious Diseases, “there’s huge potential for these innovation precincts to deliver a range of benefits to the local communities they serve, as well as those beyond“, commented Meg.

Today is ERDERA's launch event! 🙌 Backed by Horizon Europe and EU member states, ERDERA unites over 170 organizations, working together to make a lasting impact on the lives of 30 million rare disease patients across Europe and beyond. 🇪🇺 At the Data Science Institute (DSI) UHasselt, we are proud to contribute through the expertise of Geert Molenberghs and Johan Verbeeck. Their role focuses on advancing statistical methods critical for rare disease research. These methods address the challenges of limited patient numbers and the complex, high-dimensional data involved in rare disease studies, such as omics and real-world evidence. Building on prior EU-funded projects like IDEAL and EJP-RD, our work will enhance the design and analysis of clinical studies for rare diseases, enabling better integration of data from diverse sources—including hierarchical, multivariate, and incomplete data types—vital for advancing personalized treatments and diagnoses. 🩺 ❤️🩹 #ERDERA #RareDiseases #DataScience #HorizonEurope

🌟 Thrilled to announce a milestone in our clinical research journey! 🌟 Our latest study is now published and indexed on PubMed, highlighting a crucial yet often-overlooked connection: the impact of betel quid use on tuberculosis (TB) transmission. This finding opens up new avenues for targeted interventions in public health, particularly in areas where TB prevalence among betel quid users is high. Clinical research plays a vital role in uncovering these hidden links, driving essential knowledge that can shape policies and save lives. This publication represents not only a significant personal achievement but also a step forward in our commitment to addressing global health challenges through evidence-based solutions. Through combined efforts in legislation, education, and behavior change, we can make substantial progress in TB prevention and control, ensuring a healthier future for vulnerable populations. Let's continue pushing the boundaries of research for impactful, lasting change. Thank you Priyanka Manghani Narayana Prasad MD,MPH,MS,ALM,FASE It was great working with you :) 📖 Check out our research on PubMed! https://lnkd.in/ddSxmNUq #GlobalHealthImpact #TBControl #PublicHealthInitiatives #ResearchInAction #ClinicalResearch

I had the privilege of participating as a keynote speaker and panelist at the 15th annual CUGH Conference, where I addressed the critical topic of 'One Health and antimicrobial stewardship: A multisectoral approach to prevent the emerging epidemic of antimicrobial resistance'. Hosted by Makerere University College of Health Sciences, this session provided a vital platform to discuss interventions to tackle this urgent global health challenge. During the conference, I highlighted several key interventions aimed at combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) including: · Mobilizing partners and stakeholders to support the implementation of AMR activities. · Developing domestic financing mechanisms to sustainably support AMR initiatives. · Strengthening AMR multisectoral coordination mechanisms. · Linking AMR National Action Plans to other national priorities and strategies for comprehensive implementation. · Engaging Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and youth groups in public education on responsible antimicrobial use and the consequences of AMR. · Establishing robust mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of National Action Plans. Hence, effective 'One Health' collaboration is crucial to minimize unnecessary antimicrobial use and prevent the spread of antimicrobial resistance. It is imperative that we unite behind this paramount cause to combat AMR and safeguard public health.

🎉 Congratulations to the RITM Public Health Unit (with support from the RITM Lab Research Division, the Global Fund and the Phil Business for Social Progress), for facilitating a series of four successful writeshops and consultative workshops to revamp the RITM specimen collection manual for public health surveillance and response purposes. Much progress has been made with each installment building on the output from the preceding workshop. Each workshop brought together various experts and stakeholders from all over the country to bring about the necessary changes, addressing the needs of its target users. From the perspective of Public Health Labs receiving specimens from all over the country, often having no control on the specimen collection process and the quality of the specimens arriving from the field - we have high hopes for this manual. The quality of testing is largely affected by the quality of its inputs and processes. Equipping the specimen collectors on the ground with a good reference that is responsive to the scientific, practical and safety-related challenges that come with the job is a definite step in the right direction. As a participant to two out of the four workshops thus far, representing the Advanced Molecular Technologies Lab and the NRL for Special Pathogens, it was very rewarding to contribute however small the input, to be able to help out the valiant specimen collectors from hospitals and regional/provincial/city/barangay epidemiologic surveillance units across all regions. I hope with this, we can reduce the rate of specimen rejection due to improper collection and also bring down the rate of invalid test results due to poor specimen quality or insufficient volume/quantity, improving infectious disease detection, response and control. #publichealth #publichealthPH

For my #Obesity and #PersonalisedPreventativeMedicine networks who will be attending European Association for the Study of Diabetes e.V. (EASD) in Barcelona. Please do make time for the International Diabetes Federation Europe session as outlined below. 80- 90% of people with #T2D got there because their #obesity (malfunctioning adipose tissue) was not treated. Finding #personalisedparhways for people with T2D is also likely to help in supported self-management and long term management of Obesity for a large number of patients. Join the discussion so that diabetologists and obesotologists start to understand each other's pathological specialisations and in the end are more competent to give people with obesity and T2D the appropriate secondary prevention and long term care.
After what I hope was a nice summer break for all of you, you may be planning to attend EASD in Madrid. If you are coming, we would love to see you and to invite you to join our symposium on "Personalisation of care - the way forward" on 12 September 2024, 11:30 - 13:00 (CET) - Retiro Hall.
