If the Toyota Motor Corporation #4Runner Returns… As you know, Toyota North America’s legendary off-road vehicle, the #LandCruiser, made a comeback by “shrinking its size,” primarily targeting the North American and European markets. When it returned, it truly reduced its size. This decision was made to avoid overlapping with the class size of the #Sequoia model available in the North American market. Instead of basing it on the LC300 model, Toyota chose to market it based on the LC250 Prado model. All these models share the TNGA-F flexible platform. Notably, the F extension of #Toyota’s famous TNGA flexible platform was specifically designed for body-on-frame ladder-chassis vehicles. The models utilizing this platform include: ‘#ToyotaLandCruiser 300 - Lexus LX, #ToyotaSequoia, #ToyotaTundra, #ToyotaLandCruiserPrado 250 - Lexus GX, and #ToyotaTacoma.’ The two models that will benefit from this platform are the European version of the Toyota Tacoma, known as the #ToyotaHilux, and the #Toyota4Runner. Earlier this week, we received the announcement of the next-generation 4Runner, one of Toyota’s beloved off-road models in America. While this news delighted Toyota enthusiasts, I had some reservations. My concern stemmed from the possibility that the new Land Cruiser (LC250 Prado) might have similar sizes. However, I found a way to alleviate those worries. If the Toyota 4Runner returns, it should be immediately classified among Toyota’s ‘Body-on-Frame SUV’ models. I hope that the upcoming 4Runner, Land Cruiser, and Sequoia models strike a balance in terms of scaling and sizing. If the sizes of Toyota’s next-generation 4Runner fall between those of the Land Cruiser and Sequoia, it would allow for clear classification of ‘Body-on-Frame SUV’ models. Simply: the Land Cruiser belongs to the ‘D-Frame Segment,’ the next-generation 4Runner to the ‘E-Frame Segment,’ and the Sequoia to the ‘F-Frame Segment.’ This approach would dispel my concerns and allow me to look forward to Toyota’s next-generation 4Runner, even before it officially debuts.
