The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) is excited to announce the inaugural ENVIRO Awards for innovation, excellence and leadership in the circular economy. As part of WMRR’s national circular economy conference – ENVIRO in #Brisbane on 26-27 June 2024 – we want to acknowledge and celebrate the leaders in this field that have led the charge in bringing a circular economy to life in Australia. Have you ever wondered about the effectiveness of composting facilities in the United States? A recent study by the Composting Consortium, resulting from an 18-month field test of 10 composting facilities and over 23,000 packages in the US, found the following . . . 🥤 Compostable plastic packaging and products acheived 98% disintegration on average by surface area (exceeding industry goal of 90% or higher disintegration) 📦 Compostable fiber packaging and products saw 83% disintegration on average by surface area (exceeding industry goal of 80% or higher disintegration) Two years ago, we helped Frito-Lay trial a new BPI compostable chip bag made from 85% PLA (corn emoji bioplastic) at Coachella 2022. The raw material production of the trialed bags produce ~60% less emissions than the conventional chip bags and can be effectively disintegrated in commercial composting facilities across the US. Efficient pressing of empty fruit bunch harvests is crucial to our sustainability efforts. In 2023, Asian Agri added seven press machines, and upgraded existing ones from half-press to full press. With 7 optimised machines across our 10 factories, we achieved more efficient management of waste oil recovery, and helped maintain our sustainability certications at 100%. These effort aim to keep us on track on our AA2030 targets for Responsible and Sustainable production. I'm ecstatic to have completed the Green Leaders Academy coursework. Module 7: Plastic Pollution resonated deeply with me, as it aligns with #Acerecycles' mission to make a positive environmental impact. Here are some key insights from Module 7: - 40% of global plastic waste ends up in the environment, with 45% coming from rural areas. - Adopting a circular economy approach is crucial, prioritizing recycling, upcycling, and responsible waste management. - The Ocean Recovery Alliance's initiatives, like CAPP, inspire me with their transparent, community-driven approach to combating plastic pollution. Thanks to 10 Billion Strong and the Green Leaders Academy Team, I'm now equipped to drive change as a green leader. I'm eager to apply my knowledge and make a meaningful impact in sustainability.
