🌱 As a supplier it doesn't only matter how you are yourself meeting your own #sustainability goals, though it's much more about how we can help our customers to meet their sustainability goals. 🌿 Then it's great that there are independent organizations like SMSC and MY GREEN LAB® that evaluate suppliers, providing independent validation of the environmental impact of products evaluating manufacturing, use, packaging and disposal. ACT-labeled products are independently audited by Sustainable Management and Strategy Collaborative (SMSC) and verified by My Green Lab . 🥇So we are very proud that Waters Corporation is the first LC Column provider to receive "My Green Lab ACT" Ecolabel Certification for 42 of the #LCcolumns. The #ACQUITY and #CORTECS Columns are the first such products to earn the ACT Ecolabel! 💚 Hazel Dickson Bàrbara Bagó Lina Tsamili Richard Robinson Dr. Detlev Kurth Evelien Dejaegere Torsten Due Bryld Joakim Delaux Niccolò Bosso Philippe Vassault

Looks like implementation of PPWR is going to be bumpy 😊 At least that's the impression one would get by watching the session "Packaging progress: Translating talks into action" of the POLITICO Europe’s #SustainableFuture week in which I participated together with Alejandro Dorado Najera, commissioner for Circular Economy of the Spanish Environment ministry and Francesca Stevens, secretary general of EUROPEN. We had a rather heated discussion about #PPWR and what is to follow. Since we only had 35 min to discuss a big and complex topic I think we run into several misunderstandings which made the conversation "entertaining" for the audience yet rather deceiving in terms of next steps. Europen blamed local authorities and recyclers for the failure to achieve the PPWD targets and the Spanish representative reminded the packaging industry that it’s them who places the packaging in the market and who pays and -sometimes- organizes the collection. With #depositsystems being implemented across Europe, transparency should increase, and these disputes will be solved for what concerns beverage packaging. Nevertheless, I'm worried about the fate of the #packaging not included in DRS systems. The packaging industry will continue to claim they pay too much and the local authorities will continue to claim that they pay too little. This year we commissioned a study to Eunomia Research & Consulting to analyse the figures in Spain and it found a big gap between what producer responsibility organisations report and reality. In Spain the producer responsibility organisation claimed 71% separate collection when our study found that 36% was a more real figure. The Spanish ministry of Environment concluded that the official figure was of 41% separate collection and hence the country will implement a DRS system. 30 points of difference cannot be just a sensitivity error, for what matters, this difference could mean that brands owe more than 1000 million euros to the local authorities in Spain alone. In other words, there is a good economic incentive to tweak the figures. A good #EPR system has to be able to provide the necessary transparency to sort these discrepancies and build trust in the system. Given the track record of last decades, it is necessary to put mechanisms in place to monitor EPR systems and evaluate the figures produced. In the EU, some countries have better monitoring systems than others and I think we should have common rules to guarantee the credibility of the figures. I believe that an European independent body charged with the task of monitoring the implementation and performance of different EPR systems would make sense. Otherwise, we might be set for a bumpy implementation of the packaging legislation 😊

Measuring carbon footprints via LCAs can take several months for a single product at an average cost of $300K USD – but how did Tetra Pak obtain emissions data for 16 SKUs in just one month? Even without primary data, Tetra Pak harnessed Terrascope’s PCF solution to rapidly and robustly estimate product-level emissions, accelerating its innovation, alongside benchmarks that could slash emissions by up to 88% 📈. But why hear it from us? Know it from the experience of Alejandro Cabal, President of Tetra Pak Japan & Korea who states, “[Terrascope] not only sets us apart in the market but also strengthens our ability to continuously refine our marketing, sales, and product innovation strategies.” ⚡️ Read the case study at: https://lnkd.in/grUuXkcA
