💧 It’s #WorldWaterWeek - to celebrate we are sharing a new video highlighting the impact our work is having in schools in Uganda. 📽 We built four rainwater harvesting tanks using ecoblocks at Nakateete Baptist Primary School earlier this year - we recently filmed teachers & pupils to see what impacts the tanks have made. Today we are sharing a clip from a teacher – you can watch the full video (3 mins) at https://lnkd.in/eKS9ZgZS 🙌 We know from almost 40 years’ experience that access to clean water not only improves drinking water availability, it has powerful impacts on health, education, sanitation, poverty, well-being and the environment. #SDG6 #SDG2 #SDG4 #SDG1 #SDG3 #SDG13 #rainwaterharvesting #water #WaterSanitationandHygiene #climatechange #WWWeek World Water Week #waterharvest Neil Mehta Alice La Trobe Weston Gareth Davies Fiona Beukes FCMI Justin Boynton

Today is #WorldWaterDay! Clean water isn't always within reach. In many communities and schools, ongoing poverty has forced people to use unsafe, contaminated, or distant water sources. According to Unicef’s report, nearly 546 million children (29%) worldwide lacked at basic drinking water service at their school, and among them, over 288 million (15 %) had no drinking water service at all.* When schools have access to safe water, children have a better environment to study and grow. When children learn about safe water, sanitation and hygiene habits at school can reinforce positive life-long habits that will benefit their homes and communities. Would you help by giving a gift of clean water on this World Water Day? https://lnkd.in/eVRW3zKm Thank you so much for your support! *Unicef. (2022, June 2). This is such an important mission that World Vision is engaged in and one that I am so proud of. The work they do to reach people with lifesaving resources like clean water paints a beautiful picture of what it means to care for our fellow human beings. Lack of access to clean water is such a preventable factor to the poverty level of these communities. When people don’t have access to safe and clean water, they are unable to stay healthy, go to work, or go to school. This lack of access also keeps communities economically stunted and perpetuates the crippling cycle of poverty as so much time throughout the day is spent simply fetching water to survive or recovering from waterborne illnesses. This is the daily reality for 2.2 billion people in the world who still don't have access to this lifesaving resource…. one of the main factors of why nearly 10% of the global population live in poverty - with a disproportionate affect on women and children. Please consider learning more about this important cause and the lifesaving work the wonderful people at World Vision are engaged in. 💧 #WorldWaterDay #waterislife
On #WorldWaterDay, I’m remembering a moment that illustrated the power of clean water access. I joined thousands of people praying, cheering, and dancing with the energy you would see at a football stadium or concert. But this was a community in Rwanda celebrating their access to water. Last year we reached the incredible milestone of equipping everyone, everywhere we work in the country with lasting clean water. But there’s more work to do. Nearly 4,000 people — more than 1,000 of whom are children under 5 — die every day from diseases related to lack of safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. Reaching one new person every 10 seconds with clean water, World Vision is committed to helping solve the global water crisis in our lifetime.

🌍💧 Moving Forward with Transformative WASH Solutions 💧🌍 As we close the WASH Forum, we are enriched with strategies to drive impactful change through our new business plan (FY26-FY30). Dr. Fungai Makoni emphasized that this plan is more than a strategy—it’s a commitment to serve the most vulnerable children by transforming WASH access in our region. Access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene gives children and their families a chance to flourish and we believe every child deserves – and has the right – to use safe water and live in a clean environment. "Let’s translate this new business plan into concrete actions. By building on our strength of partnership and integration, we can make a lasting change," he encouraged. Together, we’re ready to make these commitments a reality! #TransformativeWASH #WASHBusinessPlan #PartnershipForImpact #ServingTheVulnerable World Vision World Vision Southern Africa World Vision Eswatini World Vision Zambia World Vision Zimbabwe World Vision Moçambique World Vision DRC World Vision Malawi World Vision Angola James Chifwelu Nkemba Idalina Alfai Dr Fungai Sexton Makoni Kabelo Tseetsana

Today is #WorldWaterDay, a time to celebrate water and also be inspired to take action to tackle the global water crisis, towards #SDG6. Water, sanitation and hygiene are at the heart of child well-being, and essential for children and their families to thrive. I’m pleased to share that in 2023, World Vision in #EastAfrica reached more than 2.2 million people, including children, with our WASH progamming. You can learn more about this impact through our 2023 Annual Report: https://bit.ly/3HGXYjI Friends, this is excellent progress but much more work needs to be done. More than 1,000 children still die every day due to diseases caused by unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene. The 2024 WWD theme is ‘Water for Peace’. This means that water can create peace or spark conflict; prosperity and peace rely on water; and water can lead us out of crisis. I join the calls for greater political prioritisation and increased funding to improve household access to water, sanitation and hygiene, targeting communities and children most at risk. This World Water Day, we all need to unite around water and use water for peace. 👉🏿 https://bit.ly/3INphcz #SDG6

At Malteser International, we're committed to bringing vital WASH programs to communities worldwide, promoting "Water for Peace" as one of our guiding principle. In the diverse regions where we operate, water is often a scarce treasure. We're dedicated to strengthen unity and collaboration across different communities to secure fair access to this precious resource. Our efforts are not just about providing access, they're about building a foundation for sustainable and peaceful water use. This way, we contribute towards achieving #SDG6: water and sanitation for all by 2030. What does that look like in practice? In Uganda 🇺🇬 for example, we support both refugees and host communities by developing shared water systems. This approach not only meets immediate needs but also supports mutual respect. Together, we can make a difference. Help us to accelerate change towards a future where everyone, everywhere, has access to clean water and sanitation. 19 October 2024: World Toilet Day, Toilets - A Place for Peace Rural Aid Pakistan is celebrating World Toilet Day 2024 by conducting various interactive activities including awareness raising sessions, art and speech competitions etc. with partner rural communities, youth and school going children. This essential space, at the center of our lives, should be safe and secure. But for billions of people, sanitation is under threat from conflict, climate change, disasters and neglect. ‘Safe toilets for all by 2030’ are one of the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 6 – but the world is seriously off track. 3.5 billion people still live without safely managed sanitation, including 419 million who practice open defecation. Faster action to improve and protect people’s access to sanitation is critical to building a fairer, more peaceful world. Rural Aid is providing sustainable WASH services and ensuring open defecation free communities through affordable, appropriate technology and behavioral change. Rural Aid is implementing the virous community-based WASH initiatives including clean drinking water, safe sanitation & hygiene promotion. The Rural Aid’s integrated WASH program is contributing the Rural Aid strategic plan 2023-2027 Strategic theme -2 “Increase equitable access to quality social services, including health, education, WASH and Strategic Objectives “Improved access to clean drinking water, public and environmental sanitation and hygiene promotion, strengthening of institutional mechanisms” and SDGs 3 Good Health and Well-being, SDG 6 Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 13 Climate Change. #SDGs #RWSNMemberOrganisation #imo #unops #humanitarianaid #usaid #UNDPinPakistan #unicef #iom #GIZ #jser #lngb #UNICEFPakistan #USAIDPAKISTAN #unofficial #sdgs2030 #unopsPakistan #UNWomen #UNWomenPakistan #RuralAidPakistan #ResilientFuture #SDG2ZeroHunger #GIZPakistan #IUCN #iucnpakistan #gndr #sdg13climateaction #FCDO #BritishCouncil #BritishCouncilPakistan #OAKDF #sanitationandwaterforall #waterintegritynetwork #rwsn #WorldToiletDay #worldtoiletday2024 #safesanitation

WHO records that in 2022, over 1.5 billion people still do not have basic sanitation services (private toilets or latrines), and of this figure, more than 400 million people still defecate in the open. Most of them are people living in the Global South. Undeniably, we still need huge support to attain SDG 6 effectively. Or the proper question are: are we sure we can attain the universal access to WASH in the next 5 years? Will we do the business as usual or how can we do the WASH intervention differently? Today is the World Toilet Day and the figures show us that without involving those who living in such situations, the safely managed sanitation will not be achieved. To do this, participation and decolonisation in WASH is a must because both in humanitarian and development sectors have many historical and continuing examples of colonialism which prevent us from highly improving the WASH progress globally. Then, another question for reflection now would be: are we (who work in international organisations) really ready to unlock and demonstrate the decolonisation in the sector? Let’s not only focus on World Toilet Day celebrations and raising awareness but also reflection on what we have done and is doing in achieving the progress in WASH. Pics for attention: a private toilet in a house in Honduras on my monitoring visit within the global ECT WASH programme. #worldtoiletday #wash #toilet #sgd6 #decolonisation

At Rural Water Access Foundation, our dedicated efforts aim to create a future where no child is endangered by water-related crises, and every community can thrive in a safe, healthy environment. We implement programs that support and train communities to understand and execute water-related initiatives to ensure the alarming statistics are reduced to the lowest minimum, safeguarding the next generation. With 78 million children exposed to water-related crises in Nigeria, the urgency of our mission cannot be overstated. This is why we are relentlessly working to ensure that everyone, regardless of their color, faith, or orientation, has access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene programs. Our comprehensive approach addresses multiple critical areas such as Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, disaster management, climate education, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Prevention, emergency response and Mother-Child Survival Programs. #ruwaf #ruwafimpact

Providing access to safe drinking water is essential for community health and development, and hand pumps can make a significant difference in areas where clean water sources are scarce. The collaboration between Laar Humanitarian & Development Program and WaterAid Pakistan demonstrates the power of partnerships in addressing crucial issues like water sanitation and hygiene. We hope the project continues to make a positive impact on the communities it serves. #LaarHumanitarianandDevelopmentProgramMedia #LaarHumanitarianandDevelopmentProgram #WaterAidPakistan #wateraid #SDG6 #sdg6cleanwaterandsanitation #drinkingwater #HealthAndHygiene #cleandrinkingwater #wash #sanitation #SocialWelfareDepartment
