I found a free tool for adding weather right into my calendar which is helpful when you are deciding the day of if an outdoor event is still a good option (e.g., community events with family). Here's the link if you want to try it: https://lnkd.in/g_tHYSZh

So crucial to keep these venues open for the use of our communities.
An opportunity for community organisations or entertainment groups to run Stourbridge or Halesowen Town Halls has arisen. Stourbridge and Halesowen Town Halls host a range of community events and professional shows. Due to Dudley Council’s current financial position, it is seeking applications from organisations who can demonstrate their ability to take on the running of the Halls. Groups are invited to submit expressions from now until 16 September 2024, with formal bids submitted by 30 November https://lnkd.in/ezVRX6hA

What a privilege its been, helping build kai resilience in north Taranaki with Waitara Food Bank Pataka Kai. This story on Seven Sharp highlights how its operating differently from most, and there’s more to come - watch this space 👀 #foodbank #kairesilience #futurefoodbank #waitarafoodbank
We have an amazing connection with our community in so many ways. We would really love to foster and build social connection and education around kai resilience and food sovereignty. We plan to build a community hub centered around these things. We are in search of a plot of land that is accessible to our Waitara community, within walking distance from thier homes, and a welcoming, long term place for them to connect, grow and learn. If this sounds like something you could help with, please get in touch.

I went for a walk this weekend and I passed a community resident centre. For part of my childhood I lived in a community that had a community resident centre just like this one. It had a tennis court, a playground, a skating rink, and even a lake that you could fish in. But it was exclusive to the residents of our community. The only way for non-residents to get in is if they were friends of a resident member who could pay a small fee for a few guests. At the time I didn’t pay much mind to the fact that it these exclusive factors but now I can’t help but ask myself the question why? Why do we make community centres that are exclusive to select people? Why do we feel the need to make exclusive playgrounds? Why do we feel the need to make exclusive park spaces? Why are making “community” exclusive? I thought to myself “Well someone has to pay for all those emaculate amenities and the people who pay should be the ones to enjoy it.” But I was quickly challenged with the question “Why do we put a price tag on ‘community’? How can we call it a ‘community’ but make it exclusive?” It may seem like nothing, but parks and playgrounds build communities. Think about the community you grew up in. Perhaps there was a playground or park. Maybe it was just a giant field of grass with nothing more than a few trees. What memories do you have there? Maybe it was where you met your first friend, where you played with your siblings, or where you had your ‘first kiss’ with your neighbourhood crush! It’s a space where you built connections. The place you learned to interact and be social. The power of human connections is priceless. Community is not a luxury. It’s a human need. We need each other! We need to advocate and request free public spaces that invoke community interactions and activities. Think about how it could change your community. Think about how it could change your city. Think about the effect it could have on us as individuals and the way we interact with each other. What a change that could be!
