I have just listened to an American webinar on reviving generosity led by very influential sector leaders. Households giving to charity down 15%. Number of USA donors claiming tax benefits 9%. 43% of the population do not trust charities. Crisis? And yet not one mention of legacy giving. In fact one speaker focused on charities needing to gain new young donors. In the middle of a cash crisis? When retention of the young is so low? What about older donors who can afford to give now and in their Wills. Legacy giving is due to double globally in the next 20 years. The Big Picture according to the just-released Giving USA 2024 Report: The new numbers say that after considering individual #donations, corporate donations, bequests and #foundation giving, Americans gave $557.16 billion in 2023—a 1.9% increase in current dollars (but down 2.1% when adjusted for inflation). That’s more than $1.52 billion given per day. If you combine the individual and bequest numbers, individuals contributed about 75% of all dollars given to charity in 2023.
