We are at the dawn of a once in a (more than) a generation infrastructure transformation. "Solar cells will in all likelihood be the single biggest source of electrical power on the planet by the mid 2030s. By the 2040s they may be the largest source not just of electricity but of all energy. On current trends, the all-in cost of the electricity they produce promises to be less than half as expensive as the cheapest available today." https://lnkd.in/gvdGvtik #solarenergy #theeconomist #energytransition Andres ☀️ Friedman Juan Osuna Fernando del Cueto Mijares

Having worked on power satellites independently for about ten years, they are not (in my opinion) difficult technically. Economically it is a different story. If you want them to gain a lot of market share, they have to undercut other sources of electricity. The ratio between capital cost and cents per kWh is around 80,000. So if you can keep the cost of a kW to $2400, they can make power for 3 cents per kWH. For 6.5 kg/kW, the transport cost at $200/kg (to GEO) is $1300. Parts and labor $900, rectenna, $200. That can't be done with chemical rockets alone, it takes self powered high exhaust velocity electric engines. There is a 50 MW example here https://lnkd.in/gih4Db8a The rocket fuel used to lift the parts o LEO is paid back in a little over two months. More, including how you make lightweight steam radiators if anyone cares about the details.

This week on #ARCEnergyIdeas, our guest is Robert West, CFA, founder and CEO of research firm Thunder Said Energy. Rob explains why he hates S-curves and covers many other topics, including: • The recent sell-off of clean energy stocks and why some companies have failed • How much AI will add to electricity demand • Why he thinks solar is the world’s most important energy source • Whether naturally found hydrogen in the earth’s subsurface could be the next “gold rush” Hear his thoughts on s-curves and more: https://lnkd.in/g-KeGEhK #AI #Electricity #Hydrogen #Solar #CleanEnergy

Stay hydrated and seek some shade y'all, because it's SUNNY out there. A recent study shows that the past year in #Germany has seen record #renewablepower production nationwide, a 60-year low in #coal use, a phaseout of #nuclearpower, sizable #emissions cuts, and decreasing energy prices. We're thrilled to keep supporting the German solar industry as it rockets toward a clean energy future. 🇩🇪 #AuroraSolar #HelioScope https://bit.ly/3y02kRk

Surging US energy demand and the lagging development cycles for renewables coupled with lengthening interconnection queues means that hydrogen production needs to accelerate if the US wants to meet its decarbonization targets. Natural gas as a transition fuel to low emission hydrogen still needs to be considered in the energy mix as the US manufacturing renaissance gains steam and new computing innovations like artificial intelligence demand greater amounts of power. Do you think hydrogen is the answer to US power woes? #climateaction #climatefinance #hydrogen #datacenters #greenindustry https://hubs.la/Q02ymJ-L0

Truly interesting article from The Economist which I would recommend anybody, pro or anti-solar, within the energy sector or outside of it, to read. The exponential growth of solar (a 10x increase per decade) will not only change the world, it will also fundamentally change the way we plan and operate electricity grids. That is one of the main reasons why we started Plexigrid https://lnkd.in/dKezB5jf from The Economist

Interesting podcast from the BBC about the future grid being powered by renewables on our path to 100% sustainability i.e. Net Zero based on controllable demand and flexible generation (nuclear isn't flexible). Only 'slip up' was the replies regarding extended period of high pressure or long periods of overcast; solution is long term storage (batteries are short term) AND interconnected grids... enjoy. https://lnkd.in/eyVma6pJ The Bottom Line - How Smart Is the Smart Energy System? #wind #renewables #grid #smartgrid #sustainability #netzero #windpower #solar #storage @kimvanlieshout @guyoxnard @gailseymour @hamishreid
