🎄 This Christmas, Make a Difference for Waverley Social Enterprises 🎄 At Waverley Social Enterprises, we don’t just create jobs; we foster friendship, joy, and belonging for Victorians living with disabilities. Just ask Alberto, who shares: “Working at Waverley has changed my life because I’ve learned so many new things.” For him and so many others, Waverley is more than work—it’s a community where everyone feels valued and included. This Christmas, we need your help to grow our impact and reach our goal of providing meaningful employment to over 1,000 people with disabilities by 2033. https://lnkd.in/gSvPzeZ8 ✨ Your generosity can help us: Expand our facilities to welcome more employees, like Marie, who says, “I feel happy, safe, and independent, plus I get to work with friends.” Enhance training programs for team members like Frankie: “Working here has helped me develop into a better version of myself.” Invest in adaptive equipment to empower employees like Dee: “Since working at Waverley, I’ve become more confident in myself.” Create a sense of belonging for individuals like Dean: “Working at Waverley gives me something to look forward to.” 💛 Every donation changes lives by ensuring more people with disabilities experience the life-changing opportunities Waverley provides. Donate to spread joy and inclusion this Christmas. Together, we can build a world where everyone belongs. https://lnkd.in/gSvPzeZ8 Warmest wishes for the holidays, and thank you for making a difference. 🙏

"Transportation is a gap for successful employment for people with disabilities when you want to be paid, have wage protections, minimum wage protections, as well as working amongst people without disabilities." October may be over, but here at the Forum, we raise disability employment awareness year-round! Today we're amplifying this clip of Rahnee Patrick, Director of the Division of Rehabilitation Services at the Illinois Department of Human Services, on how philanthropy can fund overlooked areas of employment access for people with disabilities. https://lnkd.in/gsQnW399

I am so grateful and proud to be part of Relay Resources led by our CEO, Dr. Jennifer Camota Luebke. Watch the short interview below to learn more about Disability Inclusion and Relay Resources.
Thank you to Emily Burris and Travis Teich from KOIN-TV AM Extra for chatting Relay Resources President and CEO Dr. Jennifer Camota Luebke in celebration of Disability Pride Month. Emily says Relay Resources is an important piece of the puzzle in working with employers who want to hire people with disabilities. We couldn't agree more! KenCCID has worked diligently to provide people with developmental and intellectual disabilities the skills necessary to achieve the outcomes they want in their lives, most importantly safe and adequate housing 🏡. The people we support are encouraged to provide for their own self-care, become responsible citizens, earn a living with gainful employment, and live a quality of life as independently as possible. Some of our staff have been with us for as long as 38 years, and we have individuals who have been living with us for over 40 years. This has truly become their home as they are “Our Family." 💙 To learn more about what we've been up to here at KenCCID, check out one of our latest article ⬇️

Congratulations Enable NZ! Interesting read on the origins of Enable.
We're celebrating turning the big 5-O this month 🎉 Our story started in 1974 when we set up as the Aids and Application Unit at the Palmerston North Hospital, establishing ourselves as New Zealand’s first Disability Resource Centre (NZDRC). In 1994, we had a team of 27 people supporting our disability community. Fast forward 28 years to 2022, Enable became a stand-alone company as a subsidiary of the new Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora. Now with over 200 employees working across the country, we can not wait to see what the future holds for Enable. Thank you all to those who have been a part of this journey! Here's to supporting disabled people and their whānau for now and many years to come!

Disability Action Week will run from 24 November to 1 December 2024. This year’s theme is ‘Accessible communication: connect, include and empower’. We want everyone to start a conversation about communication to make our state more accessible and inclusive. Small, easy changes can make the difference for people with diverse communication needs. Take action to remove barriers that may prevent people with disability from accessing information. Consider: making your web content easy to read including alt-text for images for people who use screen readers writing documents in plain language – you could go further and make Easy Read and dyslexia-friendly versions and Auslan translations available making sure that events can be enjoyed by everyone. Check out the Queensland Government accessible event guide and checklist. The first step is to find out how people need or want to receive information. For more information about accessible communication, event planning tips and promotional resources visit the Disability Action Week website. https://lnkd.in/ggYSTaTG

Community-building takes time. It requires trust, patience, collaboration, mutual respect. It is not efficient and often is a process marked by error and confused by trouble shooting. Over the past year, I have worked within a advocacy group called the Disability Alliance, preparing our annual event, Disability Week, that will take place October 14th through the 17th (see our website for details: https://lnkd.in/g9eetiZf). The Disability Alliance is a group made up of faculty, staff and students at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. (Alison Graettinger, Amber Andrews, Helene Houston-Reed, Isaac M. EllieAna Hale, Shannon Wheeler, Makini King, Sally Ellis Fletcher, Z Kemp, Alexis Petri, Skye VanLanduyt, Brittany B., Maxim Terekhov, Carla Marquina and many more) We are a diverse bunch and, among us, we have many talents. Part of the challenge of working in a collective like ours is learning about each person, finding moments to share space to listen to their experiences, appreciate their voice. These are not moments you can fake, or recreate at a whim. Respecting one's place, meeting them where they are or organizing a location to meet, somewhere in the middle, is not easy. But when it happens, when you connect and work on something meaningful, together, it is a big deal. #disabilitycommunity #disabilitydiversity #disabilityworks
