Quota and Killing should NEVER be used in the same sentence. Honestly who do we think we are that we can turn killing into a bureaucratic number game? Whales aren't numbers, they are living, breathing beautiful beings. 🐋 Whales are the loudest animals on earth, there voices can travel for 500+ miles, yet, humans for a long time thought they were silent. Perhaps we just don't know how to listen? 🐋 Whales are more akin to humans than fish. They breath air, are warm blooded and baby whales need the whale moms milk to survive. 🐋 Whales have a favorite pop song every season, spreading the oceans far and wide. 🐋 Some whale species are highly social and travel in families, with the mother at the heart and centre. They aren't just only social, majestic singers, whales are also a keystone species. They play a vital role in the health of the oceans and therefor in the health of humanity. What do you do when the wild looks back at you? High atop the snow-drowned Bucegi Plateau, where the air is thinner, the cold sharper, and silence holds dominion, you stumble across a fox. Not just any fox—no, this creature doesn’t simply scurry away. It stands, flame against frost, staring you down as if you’ve interrupted some sacred ritual. Behind it, the sky bleeds streaks of orange and ash-grey across a deepening blue. It’s not just beautiful—it’s cinematic. The kind of scene that makes you question how small your world really is. The fox knows things. You can feel it in the way it tilts its head, unhurried and unnervingly calm. This is the Bucegi Plateau—Romania’s untamed altar of myth and ice. For centuries, people have spun tales about these heights. They say the Sphinx rock formation isn’t just an oddity carved by time but a sentinel guarding the ancient. There’s talk of energy fields, ley lines, gateways to other dimensions—wild, intoxicating stuff. But the real power of this place is its brutal, unfiltered majesty. At over 2,000 meters, winter hits like a hammer. Snow cloaks everything in an austere silence, and the wind? It doesn’t whistle; it howls, reminding you that out here, you’re the intruder. The fox steps closer, paws crunching in the snow, each movement slow and deliberate, as if it’s weighing your worth. You wonder, does it want something? A scrap of food? A sign you belong here? Or maybe it’s here to test you, to pull you into the myths this land is steeped in. You could walk away, pretend this never happened. Or you could follow it. But let’s be honest—how often do you meet a fox with secrets to share? Uncover the mystery of the zombie salmon in this eerie nature video from the National Park Service. Watch as these fish perform their macabre dance of spawning and find out more about this fascinating phenomenon. Zombie salmon, a strange and eerie sight in the freshwater streams. These fish, once vibrant and full of life, now in a state of decay as they make their final journey back to their spawning grounds. Their rotting bodies provide nourishment for the plants and animals that depend on them. It's a cycle of life and death, a macabre dance of nature's design. The zombie salmon may be unsettling to look at, with their decaying flesh and empty eyes, but they serve a vital purpose in the ecosystem. As they slowly decompose, they release nutrients into the water, feeding the algae and insects that in turn feed the birds and other wildlife. It's a grim yet beautiful process, a reminder of the interconnectedness of all living things. The zombie salmon may be creepy, but they are essential to the health of the ecosystem.

The Last of Us Is Real Imagine watching a show like The Last of Us, where cordyceps live parasitically in humans, taking control over time. Now, picture this happening in the vast expanse of the ocean, with real-life zombies. These aren't your typical zombies, though. They're parasitic worms, mouthless creatures that secrete acid to burrow into the bones of whales. A parasite within a parasite, these worms harbor bacteria that digest carbohydrates and nutrients from the whale's bones and skin, creating a complex, symbiotic relationship. These worms, only a few inches long, can significantly impact the health and behavior of gray whales, some of the largest creatures on Earth. So, next time you think of zombies, remember, they're not just a figment of science fiction. They're real, they're small, and they're lurking in the depths of our oceans. Follow for more fascinating insights into the real-life "zombies" of the ocean and other intriguing marine life facts. #TheLastOfUs #ParasiticWorms #DrTimsAquatics

The dog days of summer are almost over! Officially, the last “dog day” is August 11th, but do you know where the phrase originally comes from? 🐶 Some believe that the name comes from weather that “isn’t fit for a dog,” or heat that is so extreme it drives dogs mad. However, the origin of this phrase is much more ancient and celestial than most realize. ✨ During ancient Greek and Roman times, the first appearance of the star Sirius in the dawn sky occurred during the peak of summer, usually in late July. 🐾 Sirius was often referred to as the “Dog Star” because it is the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major, which means “Greater Dog.” 🌅 The star's rise at dawn also happened to coincide with the hottest days of the year, so it was generally believed that the combined heat of the Dog Star and the sun caused extreme heat, drought and sudden thunderstorms. 🐕 And so, the Greeks called this time period “hēmerai kynades” and the Romans “dies caniculares,” meaning “dog days.” The term was eventually carried into modern English, maintaining its association with the hottest days of summer. So the next time you refer to these "dog days of summer" that we're experiencing in the northern hemisphere, you'll remember their fascinating celestial origin. We hope you enjoy the rest of the summer, and make the most of the warmest days! 🍹 #AncientAstronomy #DogDays #LastDaysofSummer
