On the horizon…Volvo IPS for 55m mega yachts! “… professional IPS platform currently being tested and its implementation on the first yacht, which should be in 2025 on a Sanlorenzo SX120 (on the commercial side, the first installation should be functional by fall). Similar to the IPS Volvo system, which we've come to know in the smaller boat segment, this integrated platform relies on pods and multiple drives for a speed of up to 40 knots. The modular system is large (with pods about 6ft 6in tall) but more compact than the traditional setup of twin diesels (with exhausts and SCR), and shafts. It is suitable for yachts up to 55 meters or 180 feet - saving anywhere from 30 to potentially more than 50 percent (with an eco mode that uses sensors on the drives to determine the power amount required and starts and stops the engines automatically) on fuel consumption. Plus, the Volvo Penta D13 engines are already ready for HVO fuel”
I was not in Düsseldorf, but I had a chance to catch up with Volvo Penta during the Miami boat show to discuss their professional IPS platform currently being tested and its implementation on the first yacht, which should be in 2025 on a Sanlorenzo SX120 (on the commercial side, the first installation should be functional by fall). Plus, the Volvo Penta D13 engines are already ready for HVO fuel. The company is prepared to scale up production in the same factory that is building gearboxes for Volvo trucks. This should be as much as a game changer as the first Volvo IPS were. And by now, our conservative yachting industry has likely accepted pod propulsion as a perfectly valid, if not preferable option, which improves maneuverability, extends the range, and saves space on the lower deck while cutting down on vibrations. Thank you to Anna Müller, the newly minted Volvo Penta president, and Fredrick Högberg, president of Volvo Penta North America, for their time. #Miamiboatshow #propulsion #innovation #futurefuels

Obviously, I rarely post on here. But with what just crossed my eyes and rattled my brain, I felt compelled to do so. While studying Advertising and PR at Point Park University we discussed the unintentional corporate suicide attempt that was the "New Coke" fiasco. They completely threw away who they were and betrayed their entire audience for something new and shiny, and my God, did it backfire like a car with misfiring spark plugs. I think future generations will be taught the same about what Jaguar just did. I know you know what I am talking about. I think this can be even more of a betrayal for fans and customers alike though; especially based on recent events. Like it or not, the pendulum of society is swinging back from woke shock culture and moving back towards traditionalism. And what could be more traditional than what Jaguar once represented? They were a brand that oozed old money, sophistication and luxury. Now they're a hot little potato with a campaign straight out of Zoolander. Compare this to another iconic brand in the market, Ferrari, and their campaign celebrating the legacy of their classic Testarossa. https://lnkd.in/dxKwnqmF Jaguar has already announced that they're no longer producing cars (https://lnkd.in/dt478wgk) now it's almost as if they no longer want to sell them. One brand has embraced their legacy while the other seems ashamed of it. One brand is looking to the future while still celebrating their storied history. The other is... copying nothing.
Unparalleled vibes ✨ #FerrariTestarossa #Ferrari512TR #FerrariF512M #Milan #MuseiFerrari #Ferrari

Following up WERKS guys recent thoughts about the transformative power of #restomods and #customcars like those from Canepa Cars, it’s clear that the future of #automotivedesign is as much about #sustainability as it is about #innovation. 🌱 As mentioned in the post, I have to agree that this #restomod market has a great potential to absorb technologies like the integration of #electricpowertrains and the use of #reclaimedmaterials in #classiccar isn't just exciting—they had the potential to be #gamechangers. The potential for Industrial Designers to blend #heritage with #cuttingedge technology is vast, and it opens up new avenues for creating vehicles that are both timeless and forward-thinking. These opportunities allow us to redefine what it means to design for the future. By embracing the #circulareconomy and #innovativetech, we can create automotive #experiences that honor the past while contributing to a more sustainable and exciting future. 🚗⚡ #IndustrialDesign #Restomod #CustomCars #ElectricVehicles #SustainableDesign #CircularEconomy #Innovation

This isn't just about #restoring #classicvehicles; it's about #reimagining them for the #modern era by blending #timelessdesign with #cuttingedge technology. For #IndustrialDesigners, this field is ripe with #opportunity. Taking the integration of #electricpowertrains into classic cars is one of the exemples of the possible delopments, marrying the #aesthetics of #vintage automobiles with the efficiency and performance of modern electric vehicles. But the potential doesn't stop there. The incorporation of #circulareconomy principles—such as using #reclaimed materials and promoting #reuse—into these projects adds another layer of #innovation. Imagine taking #iconic designs from the past and infusing them with #sustainablematerials, without compromising their #authenticity. This is where Industrial Design can lead the charge, ensuring that these vehicles are not only #beautiful and #functional but also #environmentally conscious.
