In Australia I was an avid four wheel drive enthusiast clocking up over 4000 hours of off road driving experience in different terrains these include driving on sand, mud, crossing rivers, snow and navigating over rocky terrain. I was the four wheel driving trainer and winching and recovery expert for a club in Melbourne Victoria. After Joining thew Australian Armed Forces I became again a instructor in off road driving and winching and recovery again with over 20,000 hours experience of off road driving and winching and recovery of vehicles. Places I have visited include Fraser Island twice, Dargo High Plains, Matlock, Lake Mountain, and several victorian State forests for the purpose of driver training in military service and for club related activities. Some important aspects of preparing for a 4wd trip: 1) inspect winch and winch rope for serviceability this means you check your winch rope for frays in the cable (broken strands of wire in the actual cable) 2) ensure you have the correct weighted winch rope for your class of 4wd vehicle. It is no use putting a 10,000lb winch rope on a Range Rover Discovery as a 10 mm winch rope will not be strong enough to pull the vehicle from a mud hole you need at least a 14 mm winch rope rated at 25,000lbs. All winch ropes have tags to Identify them and a regular inspection must be made on them to check for kinks which are weak spots in the winch rope from incorrect loading on the rope, wear and tear or from incorrect winding onto the winch drum. 3) All vehicles must be serviceable and have been checked before going off road this includes all oil levels, brakes and brake pads, and tyres as tyres play a crucial part of off road driving it is important that you check both sides of the tyres for bulging and for tread separation prior to any off road driving. 4) More about tyres as they play a vital part of your ability to drive over different terrains it is important that your tyre pressures be correct for the terrain you drive over. In snow it must be 18 psi, in sand 15 psi, mud again 17 psi, and over rocks 20 to 22 psi as this give the vehicle a larger footprint to grip the different terrains. By, Michael Hurd.

Never allow them work on your engine or any major repair. It would be better to just use the towing service 2. They understand it is an emergency situation and you would not want your vehicle to remain stranded to avoid it being vandalized by touts or towed by government agencies which would attract heavy fines; So expect them to want to take advantage of you by buying fake parts or charging exorbitant prices. Their benefit majorly is the fact that they can quickly bail you out to avoid your vehicle being towed or something far worse happening to the vehicle. MECHANIC VILLAGES MECHANIC Advantages These set of mechanics are the best and this is basically because they are located where they get a lot of jobs daily and practice makes perfect. They also, most times, specializes on models of vehicle which makes them masters of the craft. They are most times at close proximity to where vehicle parts are being sold. This will aid quick closure of the repairs needed to be done in your vehicle. A big disadvantage about them is they might not be well learned thereby not a good fit for formal organization who needs invoices and several paper works to be generated before funds can be disbursed. They might not also be able to work on some exotic car brands like Lamborghini, Porsche etc. If you use any one of these expensive vehicles, stay away from them. They do not have the technical expertise to handle these vehicles nor do they have specialized machines these vehicles need for diagnosis.
