📅 Mark your calendars for September 22-23, 2024! The United Nations' Summit of the Future is set to take center stage. This pivotal event is crucial for our global pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 🌍 Farid Belhaj’s piece, "The UN-led Summit for the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow or Yet Another Hoax?", raises concerns about whether the upcoming summit will break the UN's pattern of unmet promises. Past initiatives have faced challenges with funding, complex implementation, and political will. As the summit approaches, the key question remains: Will it deliver genuine progress or repeat the cycle of unfulfilled commitments? 🔍🌟 #UNSummit2024 #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs #GlobalAction #FutureOfOurPlanet #UnitedNations

Green Light-Year is excited to announce our participation in the #WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2024, taking place from May 27-31 in #Geneva, #Switzerland! Two decades ago, the #WorldSummit on the #InformationSociety (#WSIS) set the foundation for global digital cooperation, with significant milestones achieved in Geneva (2003) and Tunis (2005). Today, as the digital landscape evolves rapidly, WSIS remains a crucial platform for fostering inclusive, people-centric, and development-oriented information and knowledge societies. Ahead of the #UnitedNations General Assembly’s twenty-year review of WSIS, the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event will serve as a catalyst for transformative action and multistakeholder exchanges. This event aims to reflect on achievements, key trends, and challenges since the 2003 Geneva Plan of Action, while exploring new opportunities for global digital cooperation. Together, we aim to forge a forward-looking vision that will inform the UN Summit of the Future. Hosted by the #ITU and the #SwissConfederation, and co-organized by ITU (International Telecommunication Union), #UNESCO, #UNDP, and #UNCTAD, this event will bring together a diverse range of collaborators including FAO, #ILO, #ITC, #UNDESA, #UNEP, #UNHCR, #UNICEF, #UNIDO, #UNITAR, #UNODC, #UPU, #UNWomen, UN Tech Bank for LDCs, #UNU, #WFP, #WHO, #WIPO, #WMO, and UN Regional Commissions. Recently, our Summit of the Future Pledge Network, an informal collective of more than 100 cross-disciplinary leaders, convened for monthly updates and insights from around the world: 🔴 We celebrated our recent successes from the Pledge Network across different regions - we heard about Kenneth Nsah (Mala), PhD championing the government of Cameroon, Valeria Colunga, Abril C., Marimer Baltazar and Mercedes Baltazar Lobato in starting a civil society coalition in Mexico, and James Balzer, MSusDev MPP, Cheryl Doig, Daouia Chalali, Deyanira J M., developing an intergenerational fairness evaluation framework for city governments' policies in Melbourne. 🔴 We received a comprehensive update on the Summit of the Future agenda and the current state of the Declaration on Future Generations. 🔴 We heard insightful deep dives about intergenerational thinking in New Zealand and the upcoming Finnish Youth Summit of the Future - many thanks to Thomas Blakie and Paula Pättikangas. 🔴 We hosted practical workshops on how to engage with NYC missions, mobilising cities and Ministries of Foreign Affairs. A round of applause for our Pledge members moving the needle in their countries! What can you do to galvanise more action? ➡ Reach out to your Member States.
