Alongside the exciting news of Comcon joining the On IT family at the beginning of this week, we’re also expanding our internal team! 🎉 This week, we’re thrilled to welcome Hanne van Schaijk and Thomas Vanholme to the On IT HQ. These two financial experts will be working closely together to keep On IT scaling, growing, and thriving! 🚀 Let’s get to know them a little better: Thomas is an avid runner and cyclist who loves staying active. In the winter, you’ll often find him skiing down the slopes, and when he’s not in action mode, he cherishes time spent with family and friends. He’s passionate about balancing a high-paced career with an equally energetic personal life. Hanne brings her love for the outdoors and adventure to the team. Whether it’s running, hiking, swimming, or cycling, she’s always up for an active challenge. On the flip side, she’s a true carb-lover at heart – think chocolate, pizza, pasta, bread, and fries! Fun fact: Hanne has just moved back to Belgium after living in beautiful Copenhagen, and she’s excited to bring fresh perspectives to On IT. We’re incredibly excited to have them on board and can’t wait to see all the amazing things they’ll accomplish together. Welcome to the team, Hanne and Thomas! #TeamOnIT #ScalingSuccess #WeAreOnIT

The Tour de France kicked off yesterday, with an exhilarating stage one, showcasing the grit and teamwork that define this epic race. Romain Bardet and Frank van den Broek's breakaway was a masterclass in collaboration, securing the coveted yellow jersey for Bardet. It's awe-inspiring to witness how these leaders unite for a singular goal amidst the grueling challenges of wind and fatigue at the forefront. Meanwhile, at the back of the pack, Mark Cavendish, a seasoned rider, faced his own battle to stay in the race. His teammates' selfless support, sacrificing their own standings to ensure his finish, highlights the camaraderie that defines cycling as a team sport. With 22 teams and extensive support crews navigating the unpredictable terrain, meticulous planning meets adaptability daily. Success hinges not just on strategy, but on the ability to pivot in response to external factors, and crucially, to heed the expertise and insights of each team member. There are numerous parallels between the Tour de France and our daily business life: teamwork and collaboration, resiliency and adaptability, leadership, support structure, continuous improvement, and adaptive planning. In essence, while the Tour de France is a physical endurance race, the principles of teamwork, resilience, strategy, and adaptability resonate deeply with the challenges and dynamics of our daily business lives. Success in both arenas often hinges on effective leadership, cohesive teamwork, and the ability to adapt and innovate in a constantly changing environment. #Cycling #Teamwork #Adaptability #TourdeFrance2024

This Sunday, the New York City Marathon will see 50,000 runners take to the course, cheered on by over a million spectators. But it’s more than just a race—it's four days packed with events that build excitement and a true sense of community. From the Expo, where runners pick up their kits and see their names displayed on the wall, to the parade, fun runs, and countless opportunities to meet Olympians and running icons, it’s an experience that unites both participants and supporters in something larger than themselves. What can companies learn from this to foster pride and connection in today’s distributed work environments? Here are three ideas: 🟣 Create Inclusive Gatherings: Just like the marathon opens its events to both runners and fans, companies can design events that welcome everyone, whether they're participating directly or cheering from the sidelines. It’s a powerful way to build shared excitement and a common experience. 🟣 Offer Opportunities for Connection: Marathon events, like the fun run I joined with Olympic runner Molly Seidel, create moments where people can connect on shared interests. Companies can host gatherings or learning events that allow employees to meet new colleagues and strengthen their bonds. 🟣 Build Excitement Around a Shared Mission: The marathon tagline, It Will Move You, captures the spirit of the event, inspiring everyone to feel part of something big. Similarly, companies can create campaigns that rally employees around the organization’s mission, helping them feel proud to be a part of it. ✨ What’s the most impactful company event you’ve been part of that left you feeling immense pride and excitement in your work? This weekend, I’ll be one of the 50,000 runners, and I can already tell you—It Will Move You is more than a tagline; it’s a promise of connection, energy, and purpose. #employeeengagement #futureofwork #distributedwork #hybridwork

🌟 Reflecting on Last Year’s Kayak Team-Building Experience! 🌟 Last year, our team had the pleasure of participating in a fantastic kayak team-building event, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome! 🙌 From the moment we hit the water, the energy was palpable. The day was filled with engaging activities that not only challenged us but also strengthened our bonds as a team. Whether it was navigating through winding waterways or participating in fun, competitive races, every moment was an opportunity to grow together. Here are some of the highlights: - Collaborative Challenges: We tackled obstacles that required creative thinking and collaboration, pushing us to think outside the box and leverage each other’s strengths. - Team Races: Friendly competitions sparked healthy rivalry and brought out our competitive spirit, reminding us of the importance of both individual excellence and team success. - Reflection Sessions: Guided discussions allowed us to reflect on our experiences, share insights, and identify ways to apply what we learned to our everyday work. The kayaking experience not only enhanced our teamwork but also left us feeling rejuvenated and motivated. It’s clear that such team-building activities are essential for fostering a positive and productive work environment. We’re excited to announce that we’re planning to repeat this amazing experience this year! We highly encourage other teams to participate in similar events. The benefits of stepping away from the usual routine and investing in team cohesion are immeasurable. Here’s to stronger bonds and continued success! ✨ The team has increased and i look forward to our next kayaking adventure! ✨ #Pdmfc #TeamBuilding #Teamwork #CompanyCulture #EmployeeEngagement #KayakingExperience

🤩 Two worlds collided last week when I got to network…with other mountain people! As many of you know, I love people. I miss networking regularly since I don’t live in a city or go to Denver consistently anymore. 🙌🏼 TechYeet filled the void. It’s one thing to network with like-minded folks, but I discovered a whole new level when networking with like-life folks! The conversations revolved so much around mountain adventures - biking, rafting, and the upcoming ski season with “oh, by the way, here’s what I do for work” instead of the other way around. 😂 We somehow even laughed about tomatoes. 👉🏼 What is your favorite networking group, and why? #careercoach #professionaldevelopment #outdoorlifelessons

Imagine this: You’re an events company specialising in organising races—fantastic races that attract participants from all over the world. You measure your carbon footprint, and, unsurprisingly, 70% of your emissions come from participant travel to and from events, predominantly air travel. What do you do? For Lost Dot, the answer was bold: they made their newest race, The Accursed Race, a no-fly event. They announced: "In the future, our race selection process will consider a rider’s carbon footprint as part of the selection criteria. Preferential selection will be applied to riders travelling overland rather than flying, while maintaining our commitment to selecting riders from underrepresented groups.” While their two other races don’t yet fall under the no-fly policy, starting with one out of three is a huge step forward. To make no-fly travel more accessible, Lost Dot introduced a Low Carbon Travel Fund—a £250 grant available to 10 riders, helping them cover the costs of travelling overland to and from the race. I'd personally love to hear more stories of how people have travelled to these events, what's the best way to take bikes overland in Europe? Bus or train? Bagged up or built? It's a brilliant example of how event companies can take bold steps when designing new events, integrating environmental considerations while prioritising inclusivity and accessibility. *Image: trying to put my bike in the train storage compartment on the way up to Scotland last month.

Olympics 2012: The Birth of IFLYFLAT. 12 years ago, during a six-month break after an intense 11-year stint at Macquarie Bank, my wife’s casual suggestion led to an impulsive adventure to the Tour de France and the London Olympics 2012. Little did I know that this seemingly spontaneous decision would change the course of my life. Using points for a first-class flight to London for under $5,000 sparked THE idea. What if I could help others unlock the same premium travel experience without breaking the bank? That night, the name "IFLYFLAT" was born. The London Olympics became my inaugural IFLYFLAT adventure, featuring an inflatable Aussie kangaroo—a whimsical mascot that captured hearts and became an unexpected icon for photo-seekers. At the time, I was awaiting a response from a Hertz Car Rental interview. Instead, I took a leap of faith and launched IFLYFLAT and have never looked back. I thought if I could help others save $5k to $10k on pointy-end flights, there must be a business opportunity. And I was right. Here we are, twelve years later, still helping people turn points into unforgettable journeys. Reflecting on that pivotal moment—the London Olympics, the inflatable kangaroo, and the audacity to create something new—I see how IFLYFLAT has become more than a business. It’s a passion and a mission to make luxury travel accessible to all. #iflyflat #TheFlightsClub #businessclass #frequentflyerpoints #olympics

🌄 **Adapting Ski Resorts to a Warmer Future** ❄️ As winter sports enthusiasts, we often think of ski resorts as a winter wonderland filled with fresh powder and exciting slopes. However, climate change is ushering in new realities for these stunning alpine destinations. According to a recent article from Euronews, ski resorts, especially those at lower altitudes, are facing significant challenges due to warmer winters and reduced snowfall. Resorts like Métabief in France are proactively conducting climatic studies to prepare for these changes. This marks a pivotal shift in how we approach winter sports and tourism. To thrive in this new environment, many resorts are diversifying their offerings beyond traditional skiing. We're seeing the introduction of all-season toboggan runs, winter mountain biking trails, and other exciting off-snow activities. This adaptability ensures that ski resorts remain attractive, even when snowfall is scarce, giving visitors a variety of ways to experience the stunning landscapes. In addition, these resorts are embracing eco-friendly practices. From slowing down ski lifts to reducing energy consumption, initiatives like Teflon outdoor ice rinks and the use of green energy solutions are becoming the norm. These environmental measures not only protect the delicate alpine ecosystem but also enhance the overall visitor experience. Sustainable tourism is also taking center stage, with resorts encouraging greener travel options, such as train travel, and supporting local businesses. This focus not only reduces carbon emissions but also bolsters the local economy, creating a win-win for both travelers and communities. Community involvement is key, too! Projects like BeyondSnow bring together local stakeholders to develop strategies that prioritize both economic and environmental integrity. By engaging communities in the planning process, ski resorts can create tourist attractions that aren't solely reliant on snow while preserving the area’s natural beauty. As we look to the future of tourism in the Alps, it's clear that sustainable practices and innovative solutions will be vital. Collaborations between local governments, environmental organizations, and tourism operators will play a crucial role in shaping the next chapter of winter sports. Ready to explore these sustainable destinations? Visit Roameo.net today to find the best flight and hotel deals across the internet.
