Our Business Development Director, Siena Shuttler was featured alongside other new business specialists on The Drum, giving advice on how to effectively transition initial contact to signed contract. Check out how Shuttler cheekily compares it to dating in NYC, advising readers that building a healthy foundation is key to a successful relationship.

I just read about an agency on their 7th round of pitching to try and land a contract. Seven. As in, they’ve gone through 6 'nos' to try for a 7th 'yes.' If you’re that many pitches in, what does it say about your client, your service, and your sales approach? Here’s the hard truth: If a potential client truly wants and needs what you offer, you shouldn’t have to pitch them once — let alone 7 times. RFPs and endless pitch rounds are just clever ways for clients to get free work from you, pit your solution against others, and stall until they find the best option at the lowest price. So how do you get your work to “speak for itself” and build trust before you’re in the room? It’s simpler and more scalable than you think. I'll give you my 2 cents (and rant a bit more) in tomorrow's Profit Ladder newsletter. Read it with the link in my bio → Jay Melone 🪜

£23,000 in 6 weeks & £40,000 more lined up… I started working with a client who was stuck He had one major commercial client, and if that fell through, he’d be in a world of shit He knew he needed to grow, but didn’t have a clue where to start We started working together First thing we did was map out a strategy for bringing in more commercial clients No cookie-cutter nonsense — we tailored a plan specific to his business There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to growth What works for one business won’t work for another After a few weeks of laying the groundwork, we put the plan into action Fast forward 6 weeks He’s pulled in £23,000 from new commercial clients, got quotes lined up for 4 or 5 more, and has a pipeline worth £40k likely to close by year-end Next step? Scale the strategy We’re adding a few more outreach methods — all on us He gets to keep doing what’s working, while we do the heavy lifting to get even more leads and clients coming in All he has to do is focus on what’s already moving the needle We’ll handle the rest If we can hit the targets we have in place this business will be on track for some 6 figure months by this time next year Jheez, I love what I do 🙌

Fascinating read ‘The Win Without Pitching Manifesto’ by Blair Enns. Inexperienced clients probably don’t know that the most experienced and knowledgeable experts, consultants and agencies in their field don’t do tenders or pitches. That isn’t how you get the best results. The best in the business don’t respond to tenders and pitches. They don’t need to. They don’t give ideas and solutions and strategies and plans until they are paid. The best don’t even think about a client’s challenges and opportunities until they are being paid. Thinking and solutions are what they get paid for and they don’t give it away. Generalists with no real experience or expertise. They give advice away but it’s not particularly valuable. Specialists know their thinking is valuable and they get paid for it. RUSHMANS RUSHMANS.com

❓ As a business owner, how many questions pop into your head each day? I don't know about you, but as I juggle client meetings, speaking gigs and client deliverables, questions pop into my mind constantly — important questions around running and growing my business — and yet, I never seem to get around to addressing them. Then, without fail, the question re-emerges a few weeks, months or even years later, and I kick myself for not pursuing the answer earlier — especially when the answers could’ve saved me a lot of time, energy and money. That’s why I host a monthly Sales Roundtable for busy founders selling premium B2B services — because you’ve got lots of sales questions, and I want to provide the answers. These gatherings have one purpose: To answer your burning questions about sales in your business. Check out the link in the comments to learn more about the free, monthly Sales Roundtable and register for the next one on Wednesday, July 17 at 1pm ET. 👇

5 months ago, my client was going to quit his business... He was fed up with the constant chase of new clients... He was already doing about $60,000 per month But he was constantly having to chase the next client So he was using 5 different lead-gen methods to try to solve that It became HASSLE managing it all It felt like she was in a constant hamster wheel. Not a fun way to run your business... So when he came to me, he had 1 goal in mind: → Make signing clients simple, repeatable and consistent. So we got to work: Got clear on who he wanted to work with Got him those leads Qualified them Booked them into his calendar And he converted them And within the first 3 months: ✅ Scaled to a $100,000 ✅ Constant stream of clients And most importantly, he's enjoying running his business again. (All through our agency...) We've still got a long way to go, But it's a great start. If you’re a business owner, and want to make singing clients easy, consistent and repeatable. Click “Book an appointment” at the top of this post to see how I can help. (P.S. if there’s no slots that suit you, shoot me a DM)

🌟 How I helped a deck/fencing company make an extra $60k last summer 🌟 Meet Gerald! He was relying on word of mouth for his deck and fencing business, but referrals slowed down, and things got tight. We had a chat, and I knew I could help. I ran some Google campaigns and sent him 5 leads. He closed one for $10k! From there, we set up a long-term plan. Now, Gerald's business is booming, with a booked pipeline and the ability to choose his jobs without underquoting. Need leads for your contracting business?
