Ever been nervous about walking into a room full of strangers?
That was me at Wyld's first event w/ Third Wave Coffee- a latte-making workshop. Coffee lover? Check. Social butterfly? Not so much.
I took a step forward and initiated a conversation with, "I love coffee." That simple statement broke the ice, and from that moment on, the conversations flowed effortlessly.
What happened next was mind-blowing:
✔ Conversations flowed faster than espresso
✔ Strangers became potential friends
✔ My coffee obsession found its tribe
✔ Time flew by (fueled by caffeine, obviously)
✔ Plans for future meetups started brewing
The coolest part? Watching a community form right before my eyes.
This experience reminded me that community building starts with taking that first step, and being open to new connections. It's about creating spaces where people feel welcome and valued, and where endless conversations can thrive.

We curated a coffee making experience exclusively for our users with our partner brand Third Wave Coffee on a Sunday morning.
This experience revolved around learning about coffee and the art of brewing your own coffee. However, the main motive of the event was indeed to build a stronger community and get our users to interact with each other over a cup of coffee.
In conclusion, this event was all about : coffee, conversations and connections.

I was listening to the Crucible Moment's episode of Eventbrite by Sequoia Capital and there was a very interesting bit that is mentioned in passing but I thinks it's actually really important.
Julia Hartz, CEO, says
"We had completed a #research project looking at the biggest customer-value segments on the platform. We had been so focused on this certain music customer that we had really lost perspective as to who was driving the greatest value on the platform.
This #research project revealed this horizontal segment of the frequent creator—a power user, if you will. And what we realized is that this user was using Eventbrite, even though the Eventbrite platform was a pretty crummy experience for somebody who was hosting frequent events. So we saw a high-value segment with a great opportunity to improve the product experience and the platform to meet their needs. We simplified our objectives for the year. We reduced some of the cost in the business, and we entered 2020 with a glint of optimism."
Sequoia has a page for each episode (https://lnkd.in/giBKNFWr) and in it they have key lessons but they are missing the one about research. They have "Resilience is rooted in customer obsession" but a lot of people are going to read that and not think about doing customer research.
Being intentional about doing research and recognizing that you don't know what you don't know is how you'll discover the insights that will save your company in a crucible moment.
