"More than $325 million will go to 21 awardees of the Community Change grants program, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced. The grants are geared toward communities most negatively and disproportionately impacted by climate change, legacy pollution, and historical disinvestment, according to the EPA." This will also result in new jobs and work for local communities, given that 150 residents will be trained on clean energy installation and repairs. We want to see initiatives like this! More jobs for people, more underserved communities given access to cleaner energy, and more eyes on environmental justice. What an incredible first day at the 10th CEEJH Environmental Justice Symposium: Environmental Justice Past, Present, and Future Conference! We delved into crucial topics, including Food Sovereignty in Indigenous Communities, Restorative Justice, Reproductive Justice, and Advanced Climate and Energy Justice. It's clear that people of color and low-wealth populations are disproportionately affected by environmental hazards and health disparities rooted in a legacy of prejudicial policies. The launch of the Justice40 Initiative marks a significant step towards delivering benefits to disadvantaged communities, and it's inspiring to see federal and state agencies, along with community-based organizations and green groups, coming together for environmental justice. This symposium has shed light on the importance of integrating environmental justice principles into strategic plans to address issues impacting overburdened and underserved communities. Funding Opportunity ICYMI: The Community Change Grants (CCG) program will award funds to communities via projects that fit into one of two Tracks. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will allocate most of the funding to Track I projects. Track I offers an unprecedented opportunity to reshape communities through significant funding dedicated to overcoming deep-rooted and historic environmental issues. Projects under Track I will significantly improve environmental, climate, pollution, and resilience conditions affecting disadvantaged communities.
